Boston Hotel?

My husband, 9yrD , 7yrS & myself are planning a trip to Maine in the summer.Since we will be driving and need to stop, I thought it would be fun to stop in Boston. Does anyone have any thoughts on a nice hotel to stay at within walking distance of the sites? Any help would be appreciated, we've never been there other than driving thru. Any special things for the kids to do?

There are lots of hotels downtown and lots for kids to do. My kids enjoy the Fanuil Hall area. The Marriott Longwharf is right there and next to the Aquarium and Whale watching boats. The Boston Harbour Hotel is down the street but more expensive that the Marriott.

Book the Duck Tours before you go. Although I personally haven't gone on it my kids have and love it!! Great way to have fun and see all of Boston's historic sites!!!

Oh, one other thing...I hope your trip doesn't coincide with the Convention. If so, might I recommend Rhode Island instead?

When is the convention? That could indeed put a change into our plans. Planning on being in Boston around the 13th. We're looking to stay 2 nights with a full day to tour Boston. Looking for something close to the sites but the harbor hotel may be a bit pricey. Marriot looks nice. I saw a rate of $299.
Is there anything in this same location for around 200-250?

I just did a quick search and the "official" dates for the convention are July 26-29 but I know that there are other things related to the convention that will be going on prior to the actual event. The official website is:

Maybe that will be of some help.

If the convention doesn't get in your way, a couple of hotel suggestions are THe Park Plaza, and the Marriott at Copley Place. I know the Marriotts run specials quite frequently. Both are in good locations though I am not sure of how their rates measure up.

There is also a Courtyard near Copley Place, a SwissHotel that I've gotten off Priceline once; the Seaport Hotel, the Wyndham Boston.

For things to do, I recommend a harbor tour, on one of the boats. Some derve lunch or dinner, they take you by the USS constitution, you can see the Old North Church, and some of the Harbor Islands.

The Langham used to be the Le Meridien. They just changed the name. It is a very nice hotel. Whenever our company has out of town visitors, that is where they stay. It is right in the middle of the financial district. The view isn't as nice as the view at the Long Wharf Marriott or one of the hotels in the Copley Place area but you are within walking distance of Faneuil hall and the aquarium is just a little beyond that. There is also the Bostonian Hotel which is right across the street from Faneuil Hall. Boston is an easy city to walk.

when we are in Boston for conventions we stay at any of the hotels in the Copley plaza... Sheraton, Marriott, or Westin...the nice thing is that they are all interiorly connected to a nice shopping mall...easy to get meals or a snack or SHOP!! and across street from a T stop for easy transportation

I used to work at the Langahm, back when it was the Meridian. It's a very nice hotel, indoor pool, small workout area. The rooms are very nice, some are a bit small. The building used to be the old Federal Reserve bank; one of the dining rooms (Jacket only, please) has the original artwork adn archetecture from the bank.

Hi,
I was in Boston last month for a convention and stayed at the Boston Park Plaza. I would NOT suggest this hotel. It's an older hotel and the rooms are very small and the bathrooms are even smaller!

How old are your children? There is a children's book called " Make Way for Ducklings' and this story was written by Robert McCloskey afer he saw a Mother Duck taking her ducklings across the street to the Boston Public Garden. Severel years ago a duck statue was dedicated in honor of this story and these duck statues are at the Public Garden. The Public Garden is across the street from Cheers. You can ride the Swan Boats there- these boats were in the story and the little island is still there.

If you have time visit the JFK Library and Museum- right now they have on display the dolls Caroline Kennedy received from Heads of States when her dad was in office.

I would suggest you park the car and take the T ( their subway) to the different locations.

There is always the Four Seasons, but tres expensive. And I do believe there is a new Ritz-Carlton as well. I like the Parker House, http://crshotels-omniparkerhouse.com/ right in the heart of Old Boston, near the Granary Burial ground and close to the Public Gardens.

I love Boston, born and bred, but have to say right now with the "Big Dig" going on, it can be very difficult to maneuver even for veteran Bostonians.

Good luck in your decision making. Do a google search on Beacon hill hotels, there are others as well.
