DD and I will be taking my mom, and my aunt up to see their sister in April. She lives in Framingham. Can I get the T to Boston from there? or do I have to get closer? Can you recommend a T station that will take us into the main part of Boston? We want to go to Fanuiel (sp?) Hall, and stuff like that. I'm not too sure what else is around. Any suggestions of anything to do for a 13 yr old and I? I posted a while ago about the BlueMan Group, and I think we will take in that show. Another poster told me about the 1/2 price tix booths. Are they in certain areas?
Thanks
Elaine:)

I don't have a clue because I am a big wimp and hate traveling to Boston.....but wanted to welcome you to Massachusetts!

I grew up in Framingham but have not lived there for over 20 years...though I still have family there. To take the T (subway) to Boston we would go to the Riverside green line terminal in Newton. It will take you into downtown Boston and you can pick up the other lines (orange, red...) to just about any particular part of the City you want. I believe there are buses and maybe commuter rail trains too....maybe someone else will come on with more info for you, I don't know anything about the ticket booths either.
Things to do....depends on your 13 yr old's interests....even in the Framingham area there is a lot to do if your DD is into shopping for entertainment ;) If she's into history or literature at all, you should check out the Lexington/Concord area not too far from Framingham....the Revolutionary War site.....Louisa May Alcott's home, Thoreau's Walden Pond, etc. In Boston, if you've never done the Swan boats in the Public Garden, you will all enjoy that.....the Common is just starting to bloom at that point :) The waterfront park near Faneuil Hall and NE Aquarium ...harbor cruises....the Duck tours are fun for all too!

You can take the commuter rail into North Station from Framingham. Check out MBTA.com where you can get a commuter rail schedule as well as a map of the subway system.
You have options on which line to take to Faneuil Hall. You can take either the orange or green lines to Haymarket and walk about a block to two blocks to Faneuil Hall. The Orange line will also take you to Downtown Crossing where you can shop at Filene's Basement, Macy's, Filene's and lots of other stores.

You can check out the ticket booth at Faneuil Hall (right next to the actual Faneuil Hall building) for discounted show tickets.
Depending on the weather, a Duck tour might be fun, or even just a city tour with Old Town Trolley. Make sure to get with the tour company that lets you get on and off as much as you want in your day pass.

I worked at the Faneuil Hall Marketplace for 5 years, I know things have changed there a little, but if you have more questions I'll do my best to answer them for you. I'm sure others will chime in as well.

I live in Boston, actually Charlestown, I am putting my thinking cap on here.

I never "T" it in so I cannot really help you there, I actually drive right into Boston and park at Haymarket directly beside Quincy Market (Faneuil Hall). Check this link, it might help: http://www.mbta.com/

You could look into the Museum of Science which would be a cab ride away or you could "T" it. It is a great take in for families. Here is that link: http://www.mos.org/

Maybe you could look into walking the Freedom Trail which takes you around Boston and even into the North End of Boston, Bunker Hill in Charlestown, maybe tour Old Ironsides if they still allow that, I am not sure, providing the weather is nice. Here is that link: http://www.thefreedomtrail.org/

I found this link after doing a google search. Looks like it has some interesting information on it with information also on Old Ironsides. http://www.theinsider.com/Boston/attractions/2oldiron.htm

The commuter rail is a great way to go. It drops you at South Station. We do this coming in from Westborough a lot. You can get off at the Back Bay station also. It's not expensive. Parking at the Framingham station could be iffy tho. If it is, just drive down rt. 30 to Natick and use their rail station. Or go the other way and park in Ashland. All the train stops are along rt. 30.
Lots to do when you get to Boston. You could take a harbor cruise, although it might still be a little chilly for that. The Aquarium is fun, IMAX theater right beside the Aquarium. Freedom Trail, Duck tours, Museum of Science, Museum of Fine Arts is a great one.

If she's into art, the Museum of Fine arts is awesome, as well as the Gardner Museum. The Gardner is unlike anything you've ever been to before, just breathtaking. It's on the Green Line, if you take the E train to the MFA stop it's just a short walk.

If she enjoys retail shopping The Prudential Center is also on the Green Line. There's a Cheesecake Factory in there (I literally eat there every single week, but I live a few blocks away :) ). Copley is another shopping mall that is connected to the Prudential by an indoor footbridge.

I think you get off at Gov't Center for the easiest walk to Quincy Market, which isn't too far away. The Duck Tours depart from around the corner from the Pru, and you can buy tickets inside the Prudential Center.

I would say that the easiest way to get here would be commuter rail, but I'm not a native, so don't take my word on that one. I would just hate driving into Boston :)

THanks to everyone.......I hope I can find something. We actually went to Boston last summer for a few days, and did the Duck tour, and saw the prudential mall. That was fun. DH is a big Sox fan, so he and DS took the tour while we went shopping. But we really only had a day, and we met friends of DH's for dinner at McCormick and Schmick. so this time we'd like to do something a little different. THe museums sound good, as well as the aquarium. I will check those sites for other stuff to do also.
Thanks again
Elaine
