We are scheduled to go in September to a studio, but if we borrow points from 2006 we could do a one bedroom. My question is If we want to then go again next September 2006 could we then borrow points from 2007? Would I be in point debt forever do you think? Should I just skip the one bedroom and stay in the studio even though the washer and dryer and extra space would be sooooooo much nicer?

You can definitely borrow multiple years in a row. I believe some folks have always been in deficit. :) In the end though, you're limited by how many points you have... you'll never be able to reach into the year-after-next.

However, be forewarned: If the number of people banking or borrowing exceeds a certain threshold, banking or borrowing will be suspended for a period of time. There is only so much availability, and so an excess of either banking or borrowing can lead to a situation where DVC will be unable to offer any options for those who have unused points. This has never occurred, though. I suspect it won't become an issue until just before the 2042 (at which time it will almost surely be an issue, at least one year).

Yes. You can always borrow from the next use year.

Maybe, maybe not, LOL. It is very likely that once you stay in the one bedroom unit, you won't want to go back to a studio. Some say it's not a problem, but it is amazingly easy to become spoiled! :)

Well - they're your points, so you have to decide for yourself.

Here's my opinion/advice:

Why not figure out when you would have to skip a year (because you borrowed so much, you finally get to a year where you can't borrow. Remember you can only borrow one year ahead). If it isn't for quite a while - and it probably isn't, then don't worry about it. You never know what will happen that might prevent you from going in the future and you can always rent points or add on later. Use 'em while you got 'em -that's my advice.

Best wishes -

P.S. Just read Brian's post. While he is correct that overall, banking and borrowing need to be in balance, IMHO, this isn't worth worrying about - at least not enough to let it impact individual behavior at this point. There are plenty of members who bank. :)

Sigh....this is the story of my life... We are actually hoping to add on by the end of next year, but you never know what's going to happen from year to year. BTW just noticed you have lost 91 pounds. That is fantastic. :cool1: PM me and tell me your secret.

After one 1 bedroom stay, you will never want to stay in a studio, so sounds to me like an add-on is in your future. ;)

Are you only staying weekday nights? If you have a weekend in there, you may want to consider paying cash rather than using points for those nights so you don't have to borrow. I do this for one weekend night for a 1 bedroom at OKW in May, it was $331, but saved 48 points, so about $6.80 a point. I think $6.80 a point is close to the cost of additional points plus dues.
