If you make a reservation that will require you to borrow points, when are those points actually borrowed? Is it at the time you make the reservation, or at the time of your vacation?

Future trips:
November 2001 - ???
Fall 2002 - Beach Club Villas

I suspect it is when you make the reservation. I've never borrowed points. I have just recently received a detailed member point accounting statement and was surprised to see so much activity on it. One time I had called daily at the eleven month window to extend a reservation. For each day, they charged the points and the next day credited them back and charged the new cumulative total. Another time I needed two points from Vero, along with lots from Boardwalk to make a reservation at HH. They deducted the Vero points and the BW points immediately, even though I was seven months from the date of stay. If they do this for current use year points, then I suspect they will do the same for borrowed points.

Borrowed at the time of reservation.

When you get your allotment of points for the following year (even if before your vacation) it will be minus the borrowed point total.

As already stated, they are borrowed as soon as the reservation is made and may not be returned to their original use year if the reservation is later cancelled. However, if cancelled more than 30 days in advance, the points are still available for normal use in the use year they were borrowed into- but they cannot be banked. Enjoy!
