Hi,

Sorry if ths has been answered, but I want to clarify. If I borrow points from next year to make a reservation this year, but then I cancel (far enough in advance) will those points go back into next year or do they stay in this year?

Borrowing (and banking) are final transactions. When you move your points from one UY to another, they cannot be moved back into their original UY. If you borrow points to make a reservation and then cancel that reservation, you would have until the end of that UY to use the points for something else.

As Lisa says, banked points cannot be unbanked, and borrowed points cannot be unborrowed.

So you really, really want to avoid borrowing points and cancelling a vacation as you describe unless you have a chance to re-book it within the same UY. Sometimes it can't be helped but these banking/borrowing transactions are final.

Hopefully you can book another trip within your UY and not lose the points. If not, you might want to rent them out so you can recoup something for them.

There is a slight variation in the case of a wait-list.

Suppose you want a villa but it is unavailable, and you wait list for it, but need to use borrowed points.

That borrowing transaction does not actually occur until the reservation is actually available. So if a waitlist does not come thru, or you cancel it before it comes thru, the points that were earmarked to be borrowed are not actually borrowed and remain in their original use year.

As explained above, if you actually make a reservation and borrow the points to do it, and then cancel the reservation, the borrowed points remain in the new use year and cannot be returned to their original use year.

OK--I have one more question--Can you bank those points to the next use year or must they be used in the year they are now in?
