Hello all,

Please impart me with your expertise. Although I've been a member for 7 years I have never been in a position where I have current-use-year points in my account. I recently realized I did not know the way current-year rules work (I thought I had to wait for the current year to start before I could make a reservation in the current year-haha), so I'm going to the experts for clarification.

I have an Beach Club contract with an April use year, thus I am currently at the beginning of my April 2016 use year. I want to make a reservation at the Beach Club for June 2017 (this will be in my April 2017 use year). I can make this reservation as early as July 2016 (11 months away). I do not have enough points in my April 2016 and April 2017 for the reservation. I plan on banking my remaining April 2016 use-year points, and that will help, but I'm wondering if I can also borrow from my April 2018 use year for the reservation. Initially I thought I couldn't borrow that far ahead, but as I said I realized I don't have a firm stranglehold on how the rules work so I'm turning to the experts. Thus, my question is, can I borrow from my use-year 2 years into the future for a reservation 1 year into the future?

Thank you.

You can use up to three years points for a trip. Previous years points banked, current use years and future use years points borrowed. The points don't matter (exactly, the banking, yes) what today's date is, it's when the trip is taking place. So July 2017, bank your April 2016-2017 points, use your April 2017-2018 points and borrow 2018-2019 points.

Right?

If your date of stay is in your 2017 use year, you can use banked 2016, current 2017, borrowed 2018. There's never a wait to use points, it all goes by the date of stay and the applicable use year.

Wow-and here I thought I knew it all. Thank you for the responses and the good news.

Often confused. You do not "get" your points on a certain date.

If you can make a reservation in your 2017 UY (you are within your booking window), you have the ability to borrow your 2018 points.

If you want to look at "getting" your points, which really means you get access to them, the answer is you "get" them 1 year and 11 months before the first day of the UY that they are in.

With an April UY, you "get" your 2020 points on May 1st, 2018, because that is the first day you can make a 2019 UY reservation, and April 1, 2019 is the first day you can use 2020 points.

Technically, your 2030 points are already in your account. You just have to wait for the first day of the booking window in which you can use them in order to have access to them.
