Borrowing Points, Let's Get Technical

Let's say I have two bookings coming up soon in the next few months, made past the 7 month window, one for August and one for September. I borrowed a few points for the August trip.

Let's say I cancel the August trip with the borrowed points. Does the September trip then use up the borrowed points first?

If they were both made past the 7 month window, I believe you will need to modify the September booking after cancelling the August one. You can reselect the contracts (even if it’s the same contracts that you booked with) and the borrowed points will be reallocated then.

Not automatically; you'd have to do what the prior poster said which is to modify the later reservation (September) to get them reallocated.

And you want to make the modification 31 days or more in advance.

Any changes to a reservation within 31 days results in holding. This includes the swapping of points.

So, if you cancel August and it frees up borrowed points, but are less than 31 days from check in of the September trip, those free up points the borrowed points replace, become holding.

But, as already mentioned, the system does not automatically move points around if you change bookings. You have to initiate it.

The reason it is not automatic..which I think is a good thing…is that not everyone wants it to happen and sometime free up points for a specific reasons.

I wish the reservations would show the detail of points used: hoe many borrowed, on holding, banked and current year points are used. Should be trivial to implement

This is why I keep track at the time of booking my rooms. That way I can tell the advisor exactly what I want to do and hopefully they do it the way I as.

It does provide it right after booking on the points summary, but maybe the newest updates will have that somewhere that is stored to easily see afterwards!
