hi, I am new to DVC and read a thread on here some time back where a poster who had 100 points explained how they used a combination of banking and borrowing to have that 100 points to use each year.... or something like that. When I read it I remember thinking it was very clever, but then only had 50 points. Now with 100 I am kicking myself for not bookmarking that. Does anyone remember that or have suggestions for best utilization of borrowing and banking to get the most out of your points?

It's pretty easy to have 100 points when you own 100 points No real tricks needed for that.

Oh, yes! I am sorry - I have 50 points at BWV and 50 points at BCV.... and I meant - oh gosh, see I don't know exactly how they maximized those points. But they had a really great way of using them to get the most time each year by going back and forth between resorts and banking and borrowing... I am more confused now than ever!

Not sure if this is what you're talking about, but I'll give it a shot :

If you have 50 2009 pts at BCV and 50 2009 pts at BWV, you have 100 pts total per for 2009. Let's say you bank your 50 BCV pts this year, and only use your 50 BWV points. Next year (2010 UY), you have 100 BCV points, and 50 BWV points, so you bank your BWV points and then the following year (2011 UY), you have 100 BWV and 50 BCV - make sense ?

With banking/borrowing you can have up to triple your points to use for a stay over a three Use Year period.

If you own 50 points at BWV, you could bank your 2009 Use Year points and then use your 2010 points plus borrow from 2011 and would then have up to 150 points to use during your 2010 Use Year. If that trip straddled your 2010/2011 Use Year you could even borrow points from your 2012 Use Year for the same reservation and thus have up to 4 year's worth of points to use.

If you have a June Use Year, you could bank your 50 points from 2009 into the 2010 Use Year. You could then make a reservation for the end of May, 2011 using those 50 points, the 50 points from the 2010 Use Year, borrow 50 points from the 2011 Use Year and also borrow up to 50 points from your 2012 Use Year to extend the stay into the beginning of June, 2011 - giving you up to 200 points to use from that one 50 point contract for a single stay beginning at the end of May and into June.

Enjoy! :)

When you bank and borrow points, you can go every three years and not need as many points.

What others have done, who have more than one home resort is bank and borrow so that they alternate every year what resort they will stay at. It allows you to book at the 11 month window with all the points.

Here is how it might work: For 2009, you bank your 50 BWV points into 2010 but borrow your 2010 points from BCV. This gives you 100 points for BCV in 2009 (2009 & 2010 points). You can now stay the whole time there and book 11 months out.

For 2010, you would have 100 BWV points (2009 banked points & 2010 points). You can now book at 11 months out and stay here the whole trip.

Doing it this way helps to alleviate split stays each year (if you prefer not to do that) but still gives you variety to stay at both resorts. After the two year cycle, you just do it again, bank one resort, borrow the other.

Thanks so much all of you for helping! I think it was the above method that I had seen, but all were great help. I love being a disser!:dance3:
