Borrowed points

My year use is Oct, I want to book a trip for dec 2019, but my 2019 points aren’t available til Oct, so if I borrow my points now to book Dec and need to cancel, what happens to those points? Also would I be better to modify reservation to rebook for 2020?

You do not have to wait until October to book December 2019 and you will not be borrowing to do it. You can book 11 months from check in. System will use 2019 points automatically because a December 2019 stay falls within your 2019 use year.

If you cancel, the points go back to your 2019 use year, assuming you cancel at least 31 days prior to the check in date.

You would not be borrowing 2019 points to book a Dec 2019 trip with your October UY. Oct 2109 points are valid for trips that take place between Oct 1, 2019 and Sept 30 2019 and those points are already available. If you want to book at your home resort you can do that right now.

Do NOT borrow, your 2019 points, they can be used to book the dec 2019 trip. Book at the 11 months point. You donot need the point in your account when you book, only that they are there when you travel. If you borrow they will become 2018 points and expire if not used by Sept 30, 2019

To add a little more. When you purchased your contracts you bought all the points thru the end of the contract. The only thing is that you can't book any further out than 11 months so you don't need to actually see all the points but they are there in your account.

Booking a home resort always is at the 11 month window from your check in no matter what the UY. Booking a non-home resort is always 7 months from check in no matter the UY. Different UY's just changes what points might be eligible to be used for the stay.

Also, FYI - if you did actually borrow the 2019 points back to your 2018 UY for a reservation for a stay between Oct 1, 2018 and Sept 30 2019 they would be stuck in your 2018 UY and couldn't be used for a Dec 2019.

Everything is based on the UY of travel and not the UY you are in when you call to book. Any trip can be booked 11 months in advance at Home Resort and 7 months at the rest. Borrowing only happens when you need to use points from the following UY..the one after the vacation. So, as already mentioned, a Dec 2019 trip is in your Oct 2019 UY. That means you can "pay" for it with 2018 banked UY points, 2019 UY points, and borrow 2020 UY points if you needed them. You can call this month to book that trip using the 2019 points!
