Can borrowed points be rented? I did not realize until today that they cannot be transferred but what about rented? Thanks :)

Yes they can be rented.

You are not really "renting" points, you will simply be renting a reservation made using DVC points.

Current, banked, borrowed, Holding Account and Reservation points may all be used to make a reservation in someone else's name to rent to them.Of those listed, only the current points may be transferred to another member, but the others may still be used to make a reservation.

Doc, I'm not sure that both reservation points or holding account points are blocked from transfer if current use year points. I know I've seen people say they were able to transfer both in the past though I haven't tried or even asked MS personally. I see no provision off hand that would prevent them from being transferred if current use year points (maybe you or someone else can point us there if there is) and the way I read the rules, they would have to be specifically prohibited for this provision to be blocked. To be honest, I've even had a couple of people tell me that the holding account points lost that limitation on transfer. It'd be interesting to explore this further and I'd agree with you if you discussed the possible negative affects of some of these options but that is a different discussion.

This may be one of those inconsistent policies that has been changed over the years. From the 3/95 POS: "Transferred Home Resort Vacation Points may not be banked, borrowed, or returned to the Transferring Club Member." Based on that policy I would agree that Holding Account and Reservation Points could be transferred, since they cannot be banked and will expire at the end of the Use Year.

If transferred points can now be banked, it would now seem foolish to allow the transfer of points that would otherwise expire at the end of the Use Year. However, I can't find any specific exclusion regarding the transfer of these points. Perhaps someone with a recent POS can research the present written policy- even though MS may have already "modified" the intent with a variant anyway.

Again, with the inadequacies of the present ability to track resort and/or Use Year it would seem to be another instance of another gaping hole in the policies designed to keep system points in balance. Apparently, DVC doesn't recognize these issues as a problem or they would have devoted more energy to tracking the origin of all transferred points - even manually. To the contrary, DVC has chosen to actually worsen the issues by allowing multiple transfers (albeit still in one direction) instead of the original limit of one transfer per year.

That's the way I looked at it as well. There are certainly several areas one could quibble with as not being fair if they don't track these points well once their transferred.
