We have been in borrow mode the last few years, as we got a taste of 1 bedroom life and could not look back at a studio. So - is this the reason most of you have added points, or is it due to wanting more vacation time?

We are in the exact same position. We borrow every year to get the bigger rooms. Especially since our girls our now older.....they don't want to be sleeping in the same room as us anymore.
We leave Monday for DW and we are going to look into adding points on so we no longer have to borrow!

We added more points to prevent regular borrowing. We would much rather bank and use the current year points than borrow. But others prefer the borrow mode. And considering the length of a contract it's possible they will never be affected by borrow mode.

I already added once but it just made me stay longer. Now I figure that at least if i'm always borrowing, I won't forget to bank.

We added on more points to take more trips....never bought to just stay in studios, borrowed before that...but after our daughter entered high school and did a fall sport it drastically cut down on our long weekend trips. Now that she is in college even more. I would buy enough to do a one bedroom, because my husband and I like them...it's vacation!!!! But realize some day you will no longer have to borrow. Until you have to take the grandkids...LOL.

We did. We stayed in the 1 bedroom this summer and realized we are never going back to a studio, unless it is just DH and myself for a short trip. If it is more than 2 nights, even if it is just us, we will go with the 1 bedroom.

That tub at the end of a long summer day in the parks is just wonderful!

We are atypical - years without points are years to do something other than Disney. Currently planning a trip to Maui. On cash. I can get great deals in Maui on cash for when we want to go.

Disney is really nice, but there is a huge world of "not Disney" out there.

I prefer to borrow, borrow, borrow and have never considered more points. We live in New England and as long as we borrow, there's less risk of losing points if we cannot go. If I were always banking, I'd be concerned about using all of them up and that would make the value of DVC go away.

We are in the same scenario as many of you..we borrow, borrow, borrow. We can't afford to add on right now, so the borrowing works out great for us. My dd and went down for 4 nights recently and yep, I borrowed for a one bedroom. It worked out better in the end b/c of the washer and dryer we only went with carryon luggage. I don't think I could go to a studio again unless it was for 3 days tops!

We bought in 1996 and added on in 2000. 10 years later, I wish we just borrowed when we needed back then. We ended up taking our daughters' friends to Disney with us every year to stay in larger rooms to use up the points. As the kids get older, we have a hard time using all our points every year. If your kids are only toddlers, it might make sense adding on since you will be using it for many years to come. You will find yourself going to Disney less often as the kids get closer to teenagers.

Ours was Borrow, Borrow, Borrow....

Then Borrow and Transfer in...:rolleyes1

We knew it was time to add-on!

I think it was the Annual Passes that did us in.
Always wanted to squeeze just one more trip in.

We have added on for many reasons.

  1. Needing more points.
  2. Staying in larger rooms.
  3. Home Resort booking advantages for peak times.
  4. Sometimes because a deal is too good to refuse.

Since DH is retired, I'm not sure I want to commit to more MF. So in planning my 4 day weekend trip for my 60th birthday I took advantage of David's rental points, and got a sweet deal for $7 a point. WDW fix for my 60th and no long term commitment. Works for me! :woohoo:

We thought we were smart when we took the DVC discount, my birthday gift card, and my MYW pass to get 1 AP for $21, and another for $96.

The mouse is always smarter. He's made a fortune off that deal!!

We enjoy studio stays for the two of us, so we bought to stay longer and at other times to bring more family members. With family members we can either get the larger accomodations or we book studios for "alone" time. It just depends who we are with.

I bank and borrow. I used my 2010, 2011 and 2012 points for a 2 bedroom at BLT for a week next year. I love Disney and have been going there since it opened but once every 2 to 3 years is enough for me. There's just to many other places in the world to see. If I add on one day it will be a very small contract.

We would NEVER borrow.. wife wants to keep every point she can!!! Thus why we are adding on very soon!

We are always borrowing! Would love to add on, but we financed the first batch, so we need to wait until those are at least paid off. We have young kids, so adding on in the next few years should still be worth it to us :). I agree about the AP's. They keep you wanting to come back more and more to make them "worth the money" ;).
