Making a new post because my last one is pretty long and I wanted to ask advice of other Christians to get some perspective.

I am going to a weekly Bible study that I really enjoy. I do not feel I get anything much out of my small group but have been open to what God wants me to get out of it. However, my 9 year old is having a hard time with the babysitting situation they have available. There is one 8 year old in there and several kids who just finished first grade. Now, we homeschool so my DD works well and interacts with kids of all ages. In fact, one group we are in she is the oldest by a couple of years and has no problem with it, plays well with all the other little girls and one of them who just finished first grade is one of her best friends. However, there is one of the teenage babysitters who is really troubling my DD. She says she treats her like a baby adn she calls her by a nickname that would work for her name, but she doesn't like to be called. (Like Jenny for Jennifer.) She really doesn't want to go.

So, what would you do? I have talked to her about choosign how we respond to people adn choosing to let something bother us or let it go. She has asked this girl repeatedly not to call her the nickname and says she is always polite when she talks to her, but the girl doesn't answer her questions (Like, where are the coloring sheets when other kids have them.) Should I not go anymore? I really don't feel it's workth it to approach this girl, though I would tell the woman in charge why I was quitting. I need advice.

my thoughts are to talk to the teen, tell her what's on your heart.
but do this after you pray about it.

please don't leave a Bible group because of this issue.
that issue that is bothering you comes from the pits of hell.
put on your armor, stay in the group. you are there for a reason

Hello all! I am excited to see this thread! I am a proud born again Christian, about 15 year now actually. I am in the middle of reading "A Purpose Driven Life" and I LOVE the Left Behind Series!! Anyone else read those?

Hey DisDarling, Glad you have joined us. I like the Left Behind Series also, have read all but the last two I think. The movie was okay and I like Kirk Cameron and think it's great he is so verbal about his faith but IMO he didn't fit the "Buck" character.

Cristy

Please dont apologize for coming onto "our" thread :)

All are welcome here.

:goodvibes

I know that I, and Im sure most of us, welcome these discussions. It not only gives us an opportunity to talk about how we feel and why we believe but also challenges us (me) to examine those beliefs. :)

I appreciate that for the most part the discussions have been warm, respectful, and non confrontational :) I think that it helps bridge the gap and that can only lead to good things, right?

ford family, I understand your perspective is very different from ours. I only ask that you remember that this thread, given its title and intended audience, will likely have many things in it that you consider to be rubbish. Just remember that it’s very real to us, and not everyone here is thick-skinned when it comes to comments like that. Now I’m off to read the lyrics to the song in detail to see if I see where you’re coming from.

DisDarling, I have read the Left Behind series, and I really loved them. Revelation can be such a challenge when I study it, and these books helped me understand the timeline much better. Plus, they were just plain interesting and good to read too.

The Left Behind books were my first introduction to the concept of pretribulation rapture. I have to say, I love that concept! LOL. I enjoy them also but have not read the last two. I was listening to the 11th one on CDs while I walked, but Chloe was just ticking me off in her narrow vision and impulsive acts and I had to stop. Overall, though they are interesting reading.

macraven--thanks for your thoughts on my problem. I will have to think about that, and yes, I am praying.

I know there are varied opinions on the tribulation as per denomination/doctrine etc. I tend to lean to the pretrib view......from what I understand of the scripture. The only thing that bums me out about that is I think it would be so cool to see Jesus coming in the clouds on the white horse like the book of Revelations explains but I guess if you where here when it actually happens it would be pretty scary.

There are so many amazing stories in the Bible.....what is your one wow story that comes to mind, you would have liked to been there to see that.

I have two one from the OT - walking across the Red Sea on dry ground with two walls of water on either side. From the NT - to be one of the shepherds in the field when the heavenly host appeared to announce Jesus birth.

But I have the draw the line at the contents of the song posted by live4christp1 because it contains so many inaccuracies. By all means have faith and take pride in it, but don't post rubbish that insults our intelligence.

ford family

God as Creator is one of the foundations of our faith. In fact, the beauty of nature and the structure of the universe was one of the things that first intrigued me about God when I was a teenager searching for truth in a crazy world. It is not rubbish to me. There are many intelligent Christians all around you that believe God created the universe. Please be respectful. :)

Found this and am posting in defense of "The Song".....seems to me the numbers and attributes he references are pretty right on.

From the perspective we get on Earth, our planet appears to be big and sturdy with an endless ocean of air. From space, astronauts often get the impression that the Earth is small with a thin, fragile layer of atmosphere. For a space traveler, the distinguishing Earth features are the blue waters, brown and green land masses and white clouds set against a black background.

Many dream of traveling in space and viewing the wonders of the universe. In reality all of us are space travelers. Our spaceship is the planet Earth, traveling at the speed of 108,000 kilometers (67,000 miles) an hour.

Earth is the 3rd planet from the Sun at a distance of about 150 million kilometers (93.2 million miles). It takes 365.256 days for the Earth to travel around the Sun and 23.9345 hours for the Earth rotate a complete revolution. It has a diameter of 12,756 kilometers (7,973 miles), only a few hundred kilometers larger than that of Venus. Our atmosphere is composed of 78 percent nitrogen, 21 percent oxygen and 1 percent other constituents.

Earth is the only planet in the solar system known to harbor life. Our planet's rapid spin and molten nickel-iron core give rise to an extensive magnetic field, which, along with the atmosphere, shields us from nearly all of the harmful radiation coming from the Sun and other stars. Earth's atmosphere protects us from meteors, most of which burn up before they can strike the surface.

From our journeys into space, we have learned much about our home planet. The first American satellite, Explorer 1, discovered an intense radiation zone, now called the Van Allen radiation belts. This layer is formed from rapidly moving charged particles that are trapped by the Earth's magnetic field in a doughnut-shaped region surrounding the equator. Other findings from satellites show that our planet's magnetic field is distorted into a tear-drop shape by the solar wind. We also now know that our wispy upper atmosphere, once believed calm and uneventful, seethes with activity -- swelling by day and contracting by night. Affected by changes in solar activity, the upper atmosphere contributes to weather and climate on Earth.

Besides affecting Earth's weather, solar activity gives rise to a dramatic visual phenomenon in our atmosphere. When charged particles from the solar wind become trapped in Earth's magnetic field, they collide with air molecules above our planet's magnetic poles. These air molecules then begin to glow and are known as the auroras or the northern and southern lights.

I think that the Ford Family may be taking umbrage with the song's denigration of atheists. Atheists are compassionate people too and just as deserving of kindness and respect as their Christian counterparts. To suggest that atheists have not contributed to the world or are incapable of creating beauty is simply wrong and offensive.

I think that many Christians would be surprised by how much hostility atheists face. As a child growing up, I was constantly physically and verbally bullied by my peers because I did not believe in Christianity. When I was six, one teenage neighbor girl, a Baptist, beat me so hard about the head with a Bible that she knocked me to the ground. My eyes were burning and my throat was tight, but I was determined not to cry for her! Even as an adult in a progressive city, I have to be careful identifying myself as an atheist even though Christians trumpet their religion with impunity.

I staunchly believe in freedom of religion and freedom from religion for all people. I just wish that some would understand that they are a bit freer because they are in the majority.

Wow I am so sorry you were treated that way. No one should be afraid of sharing his or her beliefs.

And yes I agree, it's probably the atheist portion of the song, that Ford Family has an issue with, I found that a little disturbing myself, and don't see a reason for it.

I lean towards the post-trib side myself, it just seems to me that there would have to be Christians here to witness to those left if any more were to be saved. Also, because the Bible says that no man will know the day or the hour of Christ's second coming, in my interpretation, I would think that if Christians were raptured that we would then know when Christ was coming. I really don't have my mind made up on the whole thing though. Just curious on what causes you, or anyone else to lean towards post-trib or pre-trib view? I think it is a very interesting topic.

Yes, The Left Behind series is by far my favorite books! Although I agree w/Cristy that Kirk Cameron didn't fit what I picture Buck to look like. I don't think the movies are really that good though. I prefer the books even though I do think Kirk is cute! ;)

Point taken. If that was truely what that had disagreement with I apologize, that line is a bit in bad taste for a diverse group of readers.
I am also sorry for how you were treated as a child and bullied by peers. We have a lot of "street preachers" in our area and while I understand their heart (lots of them really do have a very big burdern for lost people to be saved) I think sometimes they go about it the wrong way. You can't shove religion down someones throat and standing on the street screaming about hades and damnation IMO isn't drawing lots of people to Christ. While I don't believe we should water the gospel down and I am not saying that we shouldn't preach the consequences of sin......I do believe there is a time and a place and sometimes when I see these people I shudder. While I am happy they are all fired up and ready to be a witness for Christ I think they would be much more effective to befriend someone or just try to carry on a normal conversation with someone. Have noticed that lots of times when they are out and about, people will cross to the other side of the street before getting to them to go around. I am appaled that someone would actually hit you with a Bible, please don't let those experiences persuade you that we are all that way.

that's the part i found offensive, though i certainly wasn't going to say anything about it on this thread.

and yes i agree with you that atheists face an awful lot of unneccesary hostility. i have never met an atheist that was trying to "convert" people. everyone i know tries to just keep their views on religion to themselves because of persecution that they might face otherwise. i work in a very liberal place, but i know from others discussing their religions that i am the only atheist among the circle of people i work with. i don't ever discuss my religious beliefs at work because i am afraid it might hurt my career.

LukenDC, I went back and read the complete lyrics to the song (I had skimmed it before). I must admit that I thought the portion about atheists was off the mark too. Certainly non-Christian people can be and are very kind, giving people who contribute much to society. I agree with Miss Jasmine, and I don’t really see how that part of the song even fits with what the rest of it is saying.

Also, FWIW, I was often treated poorly as a teen due to my Christian beliefs. Unfortunately, it seems that mistreatment knows no bounds in some people’s lives. I’m so sorry you were abused by people claiming to be Christians. That is most assuredly contrary to the teachings of Christianity.
