Ok fellow DISer's, I left my fulltime job about a month ago (I was working a fulltime and part time job) so now I'm only working about 16 hours a week and I'm going crazy! I haven't had much motivation to clean or organize although the place could use it...lol, tonight I got so bored that I put all of our 200 some odd DVD's in Alpha order while DFiance napped.
Any DISer's with tons of time on their hands, what do you do to keep busy? We don't have loads of money right now to do things constantly and most of the time DFiance' has the car anyhow (he works lots of double shifts and his job is out of town, so I can't drop him off) so I'm stuck home.
Anyone have some simple, not so expensive ideas for me? :teeth:
I hate T.V and I can only DIS so much before my eyes go buggy...lol

I know what I would do if I were in your shoes- READ! Go to your library and borrow books for free! Go to Amazon first to get reviews on books and choose a good one. I will be the first to recommend a really great book to get you started. Every single member of my book club absolutely loved it. These Is My Words by Nancy Turner. It is based on the author's grandmothers writings as she crossed the Arizona territories in the 1800's. An easy book to read full of action, romance, frustration. It has everything.

I do read now, even with 4 kids to tend to, but whenever I get time away, I have a book with me.

I would also get those closets orgnanized- it's such a good feeling.

How about offering to help with Meals on Wheels one of two times a week- those people are so thankful for a meal and a friendly face. (oops- just read that you don't have a car)

Hope this helps!

I usually contemplate my belly button, find new and somtime exciting things to put rum in, or I try to train the dust bunnies under the sofa to do tricks( the ones under the dresser just won't listen). :teeth:

Why don't you make a list of things that you'd like to get done - whether it's cleaning/organizing around the house or even crafty projects you'd like to do.

Think of these things as "work" by getting up in the morning, showering & getting started as if it's an actual work day. You'd be surprised at how much you can accomplish.

I own my own business & do a lot of work from home. If I didn't use this system for myself I'd never accomplish anything - even the things I need to.

I agree with the previous posts. Make a list of things that you need and want to accomplish. Set goals.

Read a book. There are tons of great summer time books right now!

:)

Oh my goodness! I totally hear you. I work from home and it's cyclical--some week I'm swamped and others I'm twiddling my thumbs.

I have a lot of time to fill myself. Things I've tried:

Walking/biking, going to the library/bookstore, taking a magazine/newspaper to a coffee shop (plain coffee or tea is pretty inexpensive), mall walking, getting together with friends for a coffee klatch, ON DEMAND movies (they have a lot of older ones for free), knitting, giving myself a manicure/pedicure/facial...

Also, could you look into getting a telephone based customer service job? There are companies where you can connect in on a pretty flexible schedule and take orders/provide customer service for infomercials and the like. You could make some extra money and fill time.

I'm open for ideas, too, though as I still find myself bored!
