Just heard the filed chapter 11. Makes me sad, I love that store. Hope they can get things turned around. They will be closing 200 of their 650 stores in the coming weeks, so there may be some deals.

The one near us is closing :sad2:, it was a great place for browsing. I'll have to look in, maybe will find some good Christmas gifts.

A Borders store near me just closed after Christmas. Discounts on the sale/bargain books reached 70% off near the end of the sale. Almost all of the regular stock of books, cds, and dvds never went beyond 40% off. There were a few bargain cds and dvds that did qualify for the 70% off.
Signs posted at the store explained that any current books and the cds and dvds that did not sell at 40% off would be returned to the distributor. Magazines/periodicals were excluded from the sale.
Miscellaneous items like toys, cards, games, stationery, clothing, etc.,followed the same markdown schedule as the bargain books though there was limited selection after the 50% markdown. There were some great deals on Twilight items with Team Switzerland t-shirts eventually going for $1 and the Borders special edition Twilight movies selling for $10 (org. $40).

i went to Borders yesterday since they announced they were closing our local store and as of 2/17 there were no sales yet.

It makes me sad, too. It really is my favorite store to browse with my girls, and we make many purchases there every year. I was very relieved to find out that the 2 closest to me are staying open (for now).
Keeping my fingers crossed that they come out of this ~ but, the loss of jobs is just heartbreaking.

Just a warning the deals-at least on books may not be as great as other liquidation sales. some publishers who borders owes the most to, may have a say in how large the discounts get. Esp. on newer titles.

that being said, i don't think a company has been found to handle the inventory sale of the 200 stores. i don't even think a closing date has been set for those stores so sales may come later.

It makes me really sad... My husband works for Borders. Luckily his store was not closed but it is so sad. I am so thankful for us but heart broken for the number of people that will be losing their jobs.

Cardpool.com is selling Borders gift cards for 15% off. If you plan to take advantage of some of the closing sales, might as well save more $$$.

Borders is so expensive; I haven't bought any books there in years. I buy most books on Amazon - no sales tax, free shipping, and usually discounted prices.
