Did anyone else receive an email from the Borders CEO this morning? It says that they are not closing their stores, but did file Chapter 11 as of yesterday. I'm shocked to hear this as I thought they were doing better than Barnes & Noble.

No Houston stores on the closure list :)

I got the email that they plan business as usual, but they're going to close the Sarasota store and most Tampa Bay area stores as well. Guess I need to head over soon to see if I can get any clearance sale deals. I had been hearing from the e-reader community that they expected Borders to file this week, so it wasn't a big surprise for me. Kinda sad though. B&H is also reportedly in trouble, but nobody is sure how much trouble.

There's something wrong with Borders maganement. They had already closed down the Borders store near me in Aventura, which was always busy. Now I see they are shutting down the store in Ft Lauderdale, which is also always busy. Yet, they are leaving open the store in Coral Gables, which has been a ghost town every time I've been inside.

They've closed stores in the Kansas City area as well. Open one day, just up and closed the next. We went to the last one on our side of town over the weekend and used up the last of our gift cards just in case!!!

I got the email this morning. I can't say that I'm surprised, but I'm so disappointed they are closing my store. I love my Borders, it's a little farther away than Barnes & Noble, but I don't like BN, so I'll go out of my way to go to Borders instead. It's a busy store too. I was just there on Friday in the early afternoon and they had three registers going.

The Mentor OH (Creekside Commons) store is slated for closure. That is the only NE Ohio store I saw.

Yes, I changed my post because I hadn't seen the list yet. This is my store and I'm very sad. There is no other Borders near me. The next closest is probably 40 minutes from here. I guess Amazon will be getting most of my business now because I really can't stand my Barnes & Noble.

I wonder how many of those busy stores are making many sales. A lot of people go into the stores to grab a coffee and page through books or magazines before ordering those books from Amazon.

They're shutting down both Borders stores here in Columbus. It's too bad. I really like Borders. I'm fine with B&N, too, so I'm not going to be despondent, but it's really too bad.

I hear you, I buy from Amazon, but honestly, I can't remember the last time I was my Borders and didn't have to wait in line at the check out. I do see people buying stuff, just not all hanging out in the coffee area. My Borders is really good about being competitive price wise, but I know the e-readers are effecting bookstores too and with Amazon and online sales being so high over the holidays, a increase of 33% over last year, I worried about this happening.

Isn't there a B&N near the Container Store in Columbus?

Borders in the UK shut down a few years back, the two stores near me still sit there empty, very sad to pass them :(

:goodvibes

The one in Ocoee, FL is closing. Another nail in the coffin for the West Oaks Mall over thee. Hope I can get some good clearance deals, at least.

This....

Don't get me wrong, I love the brick and mortar stores, but frankly, at least IMO, they are putting themselves out of business. We have both a Borders and a B&N in our local mall, cannot for the life of me fathom why anyone actually buys a book from either of them, when the pricing is so astronomical compared to on line. :confused3

Don't even get me started on the cost of music, or movies from either of them uh, either!

Sad to see them go, but I think they are all digging their own graves so to speak.

Yes, there definitely is. And there's also one at Polaris Mall, and one near where they're closing the Borders off of Sawmill, and one in Upper Arlington at the old Kingston Center, and one near the Lennox theaters. We have no dearth of B&N's!

Okay, just stop it. :lmao:
