Are you for or against the Border Wall along the Mexican border...I'm more for to try and slow down the movement of illegal drugs...it's getting more difficult for terrorists to enter the country now so I don't think the impact of the wall wil be seen there...illegal immigrants are an issue with me and I think the wall will also slow them down...now I don't have any issues with people moving here legally...my Grandfather came here from Ireland through Ellis Island.

Let's see if we can have a rational bipartisan discussion here :lmao:

OMG, call me brain dead. I voted yes, but I thought I was voting that I was against borders in our homes, on our walls. I kinda sorta read your OP and I just couldn't understand how the heck Mexico played into our decision on whether or not we use borders on our walls.

I think it's time I stepped away from the keyboard (and I've not had anything aside from Pepsi). LOL Lord help me if I'd try anything harder. :lmao:

The last time I checked, walls didn't work.

When I opened the thread I thought we were going to talk about a border for the OPs house and vote if we liked it or not. :rotfl2:

My DH joked that the only way it would work is if the wall itself was one long immigration prison... so when they went over (or under) they would be stuck.

I just don't think it would work. I under stand they need a place to go... a place to work but I wish they would lobby their own government instead of ours...

If Japan, Germany and many other countries can come back from total destruction during the war... why can't Mexico make a economy that works for their people???

Oh... I didn't vote.. I think you're poll is too narrow... which is typical of the political polls... I don't think anything is yes or no, black or white any more.

Suck up our money and our resources and will do nothing to stop the drug trade................no, I'm against.

Expensive and not effective. Why spend the money? It's just a political band aid, an easy way to say they did something.

three words: WASTE OF MONEY

:thumbsup2 People bound and determined to get across, over, under, whatever, will find a way to do it. The money would be better spent on more manpower for the Border Patrol, imho.

I'm already picturing it now...

$100 million spent....100 yards completed.....but plenty of piles of dirt and holes dug everywhere.

2 years later..still in the same position as we are today.

An article I read in the NYTimes a few weeks ago...and the poor buildings that have been built in Iraq. A police station build AROUND the tree...with the tree coming straight out of the roof.

Taxpayer money hard at work.

The experts use tunnels.
I lived in San Diego from 89 to 2004..Yes,Lots of them used tunnels...There are tons of them..They would find one, seal it and another one would pop up..There were also quite a fewdrug busts in those tunnels.

So if it's a waste of time and money and won't be effective, what should we do? I don't think adding more border patrol (unless you post one every 50 ft along the border) will be any more effective (and probably cost more over the long run).

Unfunded mandate. I doubt it will ever be built.
Funny you should mention it.
Another half a$$ job by Bush
to appease the emotions of
hatemongers.
700 miles of WALL, maybe we
could bang our heads on it!

What's funnier--I'm laughing so hard and my 6yo--who was singing asks me..."What's so funny, mom? My singing?"

Even with the wall, it's what you would have to do anyway to prevent a breach. Cameras are a joke. They will be busted out every single night. Hire more personnel, give them a vehicle and a "whatever" mile run and let them drive back and forth, in a random order and time. A good chunk of the border is actually "unguarded" by humans. Start by having enough manpower to start arresting these mules that guide the illegals over and I think it will help the flow.

The wall will eventually go only a few miles from our house. Although I'm negatively impacted by illegal imigration daily, building the wall isn't the answer. For one thing, that wall's only going from Laredo on down to Brownsville. So do ya think just maybe the illegals will go north of Laredo to cross? And the wall will damage so many businesses around here. For example, there's a popular resturaunt near here, "Pepe's on the River". Will it become "Pepe's on the Fence". So much for their beautiful sunset river views. And all the farmers who get irrigation from the Rio Grande-who's prepared to pay them for what they'll lose?
