I've hit 42 and have some hormone fluctuation junk going on. I am finding my energy is just not there. I'm too young to drag around like I can't move. Any tips on things to up the energy. Vitamins, workout stuff, etc. My starbucks addiction isn't helping much anymore.

The simplest ways to give yourself more energy (as well as be fit and stay healthy) are to get enough sleep, get some exercise (even walking!), drink lots of water, not eat too much (and eat healthy-type food), and take your vitamins if you don't eat a well-balanced diet. If you're doing that and it isn't helping, go see your doctor. :)

The Starbucks won't help in the long run...and may cause you to have trouble drifting off at night. But I'll bet it works in a pinch!!! :)

part of the ny ressies are to sleep at least eight hours drink enough water and eat better. Also daily brisk walk at least.

Hormone Fluctuation sucks. I'm there now. Spent Fri-This morning trapped in the house afraid to get to far from the bathroom. In my early 40's I went through some extreme fatigue. Exercise really helped but didn't defeat it. Go to your doc and get the hormones tested to see where you are-include thyroid in that too as a lot of people become hypothyroid as they age. It does get better with the right diet and exercise. My energy levels are back to normal maybe even better-Im training for some long bike rides this year so I'm off to do my 2cd spin ride today-something I wouldn't have been able to do 6 years ago at 42. Good luck and remember you're not alone!!! Take care.

understand the trapped in the house thing although right now it's alot better. I was dealing with hormone issues before this what I think is perimenopause crud.
What might be a good diet for getting the energy back up? I'm thinking a modified atkins, alot of lean protein and low carb veggies. Complex carbs like brown rice and grains and whole wheat breads.

My dr. told me to take 50mgs. of B-complex every day. I started taking it back in late October and do feel much, much better.

i'll give the b complex a shot. I'm going to the obgyn for a check up and i want her to do a full blood workup including hormone and iron levels. I've got sweats starting too.

Sometimes its not a question of what to take to boost energy...it could be a question of something you're eating that is taking away from your energy. Have you looked into the glycemic index of foods? http://www.glycemicindex.com/

You are what you eat. You'd be surprised what different foods can do for you. It has certainly helped with me.:thumbsup2

PM me if you want a link to a wesite that has fabulous supplements for energy.

I really like Pamela Peeke's Body for Life-Womens version. She's a doctor and goes through the different stages of life for women and their nutritional needs-and the the weight gain pitfalls. I follow her eating plan and it really does make me feel better-I just got to stay away from the simple carbs-they get me every time.

I'm 42 too and feel the same way, my problem is that I can't stay away from the DIS Boards!

Have your thyroid levels checked. Ask for total T3 and T4-the other blood tests aren't accurate. BTW,it's estimated that about 30% of women become hypothyroid as they age.
