My husband had an excellent question at dinner:

Our 5 year old is required to be in a booster seat in a car in NY State. Will she need one for the plane or for ME?? We're flying Jetblue if that makes a difference.

I doubt it for the plane, a definite no for DME. There are no seatbelts on the bus. If you choose to bring it, we will stow it underneath for the ride to Disney, but it cannot be used on the coach. Check with your air carrier for confirmation. If you don't need to do a cab or anything like that, you may want to leave it at home or in your car at your home airport.

Do you have any idea where I would check on the airline regulations? I can't seem to find anything on the Jetblue site.

Just give them a call and ask.

JMHO, the only real purpose of a seatbelt is to keep you in your seat during a rough/crash landing, and turbulence in flight. If I remember correctly, booster seats do not have the belt directly against the childs lower torso. In an aircraft, that might not work real well. It's been about 18 years since I've messed with booster seats or strollers.

Boosters aren't allowed on planes. Their main purpose is to position the shoulder belt properly and there's no shoulder belt on a plane, so it's mostly useless. As long as you're not planning on renting a car, you don't have any reason to bring your booster.

Manda has the right idea.

Booster seats are not permitted on airliners. And even if they were, they'd be totally useless.

A booster seat enables your child to safely use a shoulder belt in a car. Your child is too short to safely use a shoulder belt unaided. The shoulder belt would either miss the child entirely, or worse, would lie against the child's neck. In the event of a severe frontal collision, a shoulder belt across the neck could decapitate a human. In a car, a booster seat is a life-saver.

You provide a booster seat to your child in order to "boost" him up high enough to safely use the shoulder belt. Since airliners don't have shoulder belts, there would be no safety problem with having your child be short while using a lap belt. Having a child "boosted" up wouldn't make any difference in the safety of using a lap belt.

Make sense??? :goodvibes

As others have correctly answered in this thread, your child will not need a booster seat on your JetBlue aircraft or on your Disney's Magical Express motorcoach. Your child also won't need one on WDW buses, boats, and monorails. Booster seats are not for airplane use, and the other vehicles don't have seat belts.

Here's a link that works: http://www.dot.state.fl.us/Safety/HighwaySafetyGrantProgram/hsgp/HSGPareas_OccupantFAQ.htm#Florida's%20Child

It's a useful link for people who will be renting a car, but does not apply to Magical Express motorcoaches.

Thanks folks!!!

How silly-- it's been SO long since I've flown that I completely forgot the whole lap/shoulder belt thing!!

Good-- one less thing to schlepp to Disney!!
