Since traveling with kids we have never needed a rental car bc we usually do Disney. Next month we are going to Florida for a day trips from a beach condo kind of vaca and we will be getting a car. Both my boys are still in backless booster seats. I'm planning to just bring my ones from home bc the rental car company daily rate is ridiculous to rent them. So, my question is about checking them at the airport- can I gate check them like a stroller or do they need to be checked with our luggage? We are flying Delta down to FL and American to get home. Thanks!

You can do either, depending on the size of them and what you have for carry on baggage you can bring them on board with you and store them in the overhead compartment instead of a rollerboard bag. I would be tempted to check them with the rest of your luggage so you don't have to drag them through the airport but I do realize they will be handled a bit more going that route.

We always check ours (2 backlesss boosters in one bag) with our regular luggage so we don't have to schlep them through the airport. You'll likely have to pick them up at "oversized baggage" - they don't usually send them around on the carousel. Not really a big deal as that's right in the baggage claim area.

Have you looked into bubblebum inflatable backless boosters? They weigh a pound each. My son carried his in his backpack for travel.

Thanks- I have looked at those, but they're $30 each (so $60 bc I need 2) and I don't know that I'll actually use them more than on this one trip. I think I would rather just bring ours.

Do you know if you can check them at that gate or do you have to check them with all the luggage?
I'm probably overthinking this. Lol

You can check them at either location. You should not be charged for them checking with your baggage or at the gate. If you do check it at the gate make sure you grab a gate claim tag from the gate agent before you board, makes the process easier : )

if you are using backless boosters I would just place in over head bin in plane. that is what we did years and years ago when we flew when our daughters were young. do not put anything in over head that your kids are going to want during flight. nothing worse than not being able to get something because seat belt sign is on. place that stuff under seat in front of you

Ok, thanks, maybe I'll just do that. My boys have flown a bunch so we always keep their stuff within reach. We've just never needed the boosters bc usually the Disney transportation is what we use. This year we are going to St Petersburg beach area for a week and doing day trips and we are getting a car.

I never did Disney when girls were little, we always needed the boosters or borrowed so family had when we arrived as we were visiting family.

With the backless booster I just carry it on and put it in the overhead bin. With the highback booster I bag it and check it. But the backless are so small I find it easier to just carry it on. They usually tell me that DS can't sit in it (never my plan) but otherwise no problems. Enjoy the beach!

Sweet, thanks! Can't wait to be at the beach next month, it's 20 degrees here today!
