Oh my Goodness!!

I found a 1936 original copy of Gone With The Wind.

Where on earth do I go to see if it worth anything?


Oh, and does anyone play piano or really into music? I have a whole series - like almost 20 books of the 1962 The International Library of Music. These are full of scores of music.

Rebecca - I found a 1929 New Geography Book. It looks well used, but I think you can open it and not break the spine.

Awesome find! Did you go to a book sale?

We went through books that the school librarian pulled from the shelves 20+ years ago (donated them to the town library sale). I found two Formula 1 books and asked the librarian if we could have them and she said yes. Came home and googled them, they are worth $150 a piece!

My DH had an auction addiction. He would be gone most weekend mornings. To make up for it, he would bring me home books. I books. But he was bringing home these REALLY old books. Books I'm too afraid to even open because I may brake the spines.

Like I have a book from 1877 that looks awesome. Most are from the early 1900s.

He was just buying them by the box full, so we never knew what he would bring home.

My Gone With The Wind is actually a second edition. The first was MAY 1936 and mine is JUNE 1936. Plus NO dust jacket. Means it may be worth $20-$200 dollars.

Guess my kiddos aren't going to college off these books after all.

Family Bibles could be in there too!!!

I do have two family Bibles. They are NOT in great condition and are stinkin' huge! I haven't looked through them to see who the family tree is or even if there is one inside. They are in the middle bottom. They were too big be anything but anchor ones.

My mom is a big book collector too. She has some from the early 1700's to the early 1900's.

They could be great finds if I could find some place to take them and sell them.

I am so NOT doing the ebay or on-line selling myself. It's too hard if you can't see the book in person. Somebody will think I didn't represent well enough for them and want their money back AND keep my book.

I hear ya! I wouldn't sell on line either.. too much headache for me...

I wonder if there are any book stores that would sell them in the Cincy or Dayton (Columbus) area???

AYM - love that GWTW book! I had one copy (I think it was like the September 1936 printing and no DJ either) and it was so enjoyable to read the book. In some ways, VERY different from the movie...interesting! I sold it on ebay at some point years ago and more than made my $$$ back.

Z2H has had great success selling used books on Amazon - it seems much easier and much more straightforward than ebay - maybe somewhat more appealing for you? I'm sure she'd be happy to answer any questions you might have.

If you are inclined to go online - there is an incredible book store in Portland, Oregon called Powell's Books - known throughout the US. They do buy rare books. I visited the store 5 yrs ago when i went to a conference in Portland, and was fascinated to see that the size of it is equal to 1 huge city block. It might be worth contacting them if you're looking for value, or even a sale.

AWM those books are worth something. If you find some you just don't want PM me a list I'm sure dad would love some of those. dh has a cousin somewhere in OH if i could find the damn address book. at auction they bring nothing but if you can find the right buyer...... have fun nothing better than a good search for the elusive gold book.

It's true. They don't bring much at auction. DH was giving $5-$10 a box for the books. Some boxes had more books than others - 5-15.

I just started to box up the old library books. I can tell because they their little white tags on the spine with their Dewey Decimal code on them.

Need to go get more boxes.

I'm not a piano player, but those music books sound really awesome. I've saved many a score from the recycle bin here at the university just because they're too cool. I also comb the Friends of the Library booksales here because plenty of people donate old music to the library and it mostly can't be used. I spent I think $3 last time and came away with 10 records and 8 pieces of sheet music. Even if I don't use them, sometimes they're too cool to let go.

I feel that way about all the books. They are too cool to let go. Surely someone somewhere needs this information.

I did get out PN96's books today and joyah's books.

Need to wait for DH to come and see if Rebecca's box is under 70 pounds. I can't lift it and step on the scale.

One of your books, Rebecca, is copyrighted 1864. There are few that are between 1890-1910.

If anyone happens to make a killing on the books, all I ask is that you send me a souvenir from WDW.
