Books for boys learning to read

"Books are boring...":rotfl2:
DS is a "reluctant reader," too. He's been in Title 1 and used to cry when we made him read. DH is a librarian, and I'll be teaching English in fall! How about that?!? Anyway, DS is getting better! He likes some of the above mentioned titels, like the Diary of a Whimpy Kid series and graphic novels. His break through book, however, was Half-Minute Horrors. It has a variety of writings in it: short stories, poems, and cartoons. They are written by a variety of authors, too, like Neil Gaiman. Be warned, though. Some of them are pretty scary!

My son was interested in encyclopedias and books that taught him how things worked, and history books when he was younger.

Just find a subject that interests him. In third grade, he read the Series of unfortunate events books. It motivated the other boys in his class to become better readers.

After doing some research, these are the ones that I think DS can read right now, the rest look too difficult. Reddy Freddy, Captain Underpants, Fly Guy, Nate the Great, Lunch Lady, and definately the High/low readers! He is starting on a donald duck comic book of his sisters and if he likes that style, I will find him some more. I also got some books on tape today at the library and he will start those tonight!! Captain Reader project underway!!
