I am going to be buying books at the Scholastic Books Warehouse Sale for a 7 year old girl. She is ahead a grade or two in her reading level though. Any suggestions or things to be on the look out for? Thanks!

I'll be doing the Scholastic Warehouse sale here in a week or so. Love it!

Let's see...

Chronicle of Narnia books
All of the Fudge books by Judy Blume
Hank the Cowdog books
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Because of Winn-Dixie
Ella Enchanted
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH
Little House on the Prairie series
Shel Silverstein books (especially Where the Sidewalk Ends.... my DD10's very favorite since 2nd grade)

I think that's just perfect for the American Girls Collection!

When I was about that age, I remember really enjoying a series called the All-of-a-Kind Family. I also liked Strawberry Girl and the Little House books.

Narnia
BFG
Charlottes Web
Little house in big woods
Little house on prairie. (Ext)

A Little Princess
The Secret Garden both by Frances Hodgsen Burnett

Anne of Green Gables Series by L.M. Montgomery

The Boxcar Children, DD loves that
Junie B Jones might be a little young, but I think she might now enjoy the writing better than a smaller child without a good command of the english language.

DD is 7 and she loves Junie B Jones books.

My daughter is 8 and loves Junie B Jones. She has read pretty much all the series at this point. My 11 year old enjoys the stories also. Magic Tree House Series is good.

My little sister is eight, and loves Junie B. Jones and the Magic Tree House series. She also reads another series, not sure who the author is, but I think it's the Bailey school kids? Titles like Ghouls Don't Scoop Ice Cream, Wolfmen Can't Hula Dance.. things like that.

Judy Moody. This series is a hit w/the 2nd grade set and I know for a fact that they have them at the warehouse sale! Some other appropriate titles/series that they have at the warehouse sale include:

The Babysitter's Club books

Mary Kate and Ashley books

Lizzie McGuire books

That's So Raven books

Matilda
The Witches
James and the Giant Peach
(all by the same author as Chalie and the Chocolate Factory)

Charlotte's Web
Stuart Little

Thanks for everyone's suggestions -- keep them coming please! :)

She is smart for her age and a good reader, so I'm afraid of getting her something too "low" or "easy" to read. :)

DD loved The Series of Unfortunate Events books.

I'm 40yo and collect Junie B. Jones books!! LOL

DD also enjoyed The HeartLand Series (girls and horses).
Anything about animals.

DD will read the educational type books that Scholastic puts out also. The warehouse is the perfect opportunity to get books like "Choose Your Words" and books like this that help in writing and grammar etc.
She loves those books of facts, where sayings come from & Scholastic has a lot of those type books.

HAve fun at the sale!

DD (almost 7) loves anything by Roald Dahl. The BFG comes to mind. She also loved the Sea Fairies by L. Frank Baum.

Her current favorite that we're reading out loud together is the Molly Moon series by Georgia Byng. We're at book 2 right now, there are 3 all together.

Thaks for the suggestions!

Can't wait for the book fair either!

The Princess School books are really good, but might be a bit tough for a 7 yo. DD reads them at 9 and she is a really good reader. American Girl for sure. DD also really liked the Rowan of Rin series at 7. Beverly Cleary is always good as is Carolyn Haywood. The Cam Jansen series is fun too.

Have fun shopping!

Any of the books mentioned are good. My DD loves to read and she usually has one harder book going at home and an easier book at school because they read in short spurts there and it is easier to pick up where you leave off.

Books like Junie B Jones and the Magic Tree house might be easier books, but the kids still love the stories. There was something about being able to read a book in one night that my DD loved, too.

Two of my favorite authors have always been Astrid Lindgren and Marcia Martin. Astrid Lindgren wrote the Pippi Longstocking series as well as the Children of Noisy Village series. AWESOME! Marcia Martin wrote the Donna Parker series. Great books!
