So I booked a place holder while on board last week. Three days ago I put a hold on a cruise we decided on and now the hold expires tonight and I forgot to call and book it with my placeholder. If I make the payment due tonight to keep the reservation can I call later and have the obb benefits applied? I don’t want to lose the stateroom I have on hold.

No, an OBB or placeholder cannot be applied to any other booking - I don’t believe it can even be applied to a “hold” unless it was used initially to make that hold. You will have to call to use the placeholder.

Enjoy your cruise!

The placeholder is a booking, as it already has a confirmation number. You have to call and "modify" your placeholder to a sailing. You cannot apply it to another booking.

I had booked an accessible room for DM and myself using a placeholder reservation and another room for DD with no discount. Two months later, DW decided not to cruise with us due to health issues. I had to cancel DD’s booking in order to switch the placeholder reservation over to DD’s room since without my mom, I was no longer eligible to book an accessible room. The placeholder has its own reservation number, so you have to cancel then rebook the room with the placeholder reservation number in order to take advantage of the perks. Someone could pick up the cancelled room before the switch was completed. I was keeping my fingers crossed and was able to apply the placeholder to DD’s room successfully. The prevailing rate was higher than my originally booked rate.

Could you not have just changed out of the HA room to another room on the same sailing on your reservation and then added your DD into your room instead of cancelling the first room? Then you might have paid a difference if you changed categories, but it would still be at the prices on the day you originally moved your placeholder to the sailing.

The room category I originally booked was no longer available. Why would I want to pay more if I might be able to switch the reservations? Also I wanted DD’s room. I didn’t want another room.

Oh, I think I misunderstood your post. I thought you were cancelling your placeholder to go to DD's room at full price. Sorry.

I see. DD’s room was still $800 cheaper than the prevailing rates of the other rooms available when I made the switch. I only had one placeholder so her room was originally booked without discount. Sorry for the confusion.
