Has anyone booked resort accomodation using the Disney website and then sorted out flights sep? The thing is when you browse through the us website - you seem to be able to choose more 'extras' ... or is it just safer to book with Virgin?

I have booked via the US Disney website before. It's as easy as pie and then I book the flights separately direct with Virgin (to get miles!).

I believe you'd save money compared to Virgin too. Don't forget that it is MUCH easier to make room requests and changes to your reservation when booking direct with Disney compared with a TA.

Hi

We have just done that, we got our flights first through a TA...we are flying Virgin and then went on the Disney UK site and booked our accomodation. The UK site worked out much cheaper for what we wanted this time.

That is the beauty of the internet you get to shop around for the best deals.

I'm so glad to hear :listen: all this - next time...... :rotfl2: no really, I WILL get us there again (only took me 15 years this time, should be easier next time :rotfl: ) this is what I plan to do. :wave2:

Depending upon exchange rate & your dates virgin can work out cheaper, e.g our trip next year starts 21 Aug which is still high season & rooms start at $99 (excl. tax)/night, however we got the room through Virgin for £54/night. If the dollar continues to strengthen against the pound, Virgin will definitely work out cheaper, otherwise there will be little if anything between it, but we were able to book back in April rther than wait until now when the rates have just been released. However I recently booked a trip for friends & the UK Disney site came out cheapest (visit starts 24th June) & when we went in December, the best rate was the US site where I got a discount, so there is no correct answer, just lots of fun looking, comparing & predicting the direction of the dollar!

Is August REALLY value season for the deluxe hotels? If so then booking direct would be cheaper for them as Virgin still has them at top whack

We cancelled our accomdation with virgin, then got the TA to book direct with Disney, for us, we saved money!!!!!

As we booked with Disney direct we received a free gift, which was a "when walt's away mickey will play" timepiece, it is a ornament, with mickey and a small clock , quite heavy in weight, and really nice, and it is not tat (cheap)

Yes, August is value season for all WDW resorts :sunny:

Fantastic! Except that its really hot and the flights are still expensive of course :bitelip:

Worth bearing in mind though :cheer2:

the reason Aug is clased as value florida schools go back the first week.Best way to get the cheapest rooms is shop around as we are in dvc we dont use TA for rooms so a couple of nights on cash we book througth disney, expedia or travalocity whichever is the cheapest dont forget to check disney web site for discounts but as they are expecting a lot of rooms to go rack rate due to the 50th stuff dont expect much this next 18 months you will still get discounts with AP ect

I told DH and he's starting to think again.... only trouble is DS(11) goes to Secondary School in September so we wouldn't want him to miss first week of term for the next 5 years, by which time DS(5) will be going to SS :sad2:

If you can, I'd recommend booking via the US Disney site and not the UK one. I booked 3 rooms at Port Orleans Riverside via the UK site and wanted to use the Annual Pass discount when they came out for August. Not only could I not use the AP discount but I couldn't cancel the booking without losing the deposit (which worked to be the total cost of the booking!!). After quite a bit of hassle they did allow me to cancel the booking but they did point out that this was a "one off". I'm now staying at the Wilderness Lodge using the AP discount for less than I was paying for POR via the UK site.
