We will be booking our resort when the winter rates are posted in June(?).

What do people typically do - book and just put down a deposit and then pay the remainder after the trip? Or do you book and pay for it all at once? What if a R/O discount pops up?

We only pay the deposit when we book anything! If you're booking a Room Only your deposit will be one night's stay, for a package i believe it's $200. If a discount pops up you can apply it -- some are able to change the reservation themselves (a modify button is there IF you can do that) OR they will book a new reservation at the discounted rate and then cancel the other. For a Room Only reservation i believe it is charged in full to your credit card at check-in but I'm fuzzy on this detail since we've only ever done a one-night RO stay.

We usually do room only because we have AP's. We do the 1 night deposit and pay it down as we go. Depending on how the dollar is.
