Booking With 2 UY

I'm sure this has been answered sometime somewhere, but I cannot find it. I think it’s a less common scenario.

We own 2 different UYs at the same home resort, and understand that having 2 UYs is like having two separate memberships. We book at busy times, and want to reserve on the first day that the 11 month window opens. If we book a 5 day reservation right at the 11 month window with one UY contract (assume we want to book on Feb 15, just for discussion), and want to add on two more days with a second UY contract (Feb 20-Feb 21), can we do it? Same home resort for both contracts. My assumption is that we cannot, because the 2nd reservation would be a separate reservation, and would be 11 months + 5 days away. But if we call, would member services perhaps add on the two days, using our second UY contract?

I believe you could only do that if you transfer the points from the 2nd contract to the 1st. (Only 1 transfer per year is allowed. I've never done a transfer but I think points transferred have to be current year points (no banked or borrowed)

Only two alternative ways to do the reservation when using two use-years:

1. Transfer points from one use-year to the other and then make the reservation.

2. Make two separate reservations, one 11-months out from your arrival date reserving the beginning of your trip, and the other 11-months out from the remainder of your trip using the second use-year. You then contact MS and have it link the two reservations to assure not having to change rooms.

Member services cannot (and will not) just add days to a reservation with points from a different use-year absent first doing a transfer of points from one use year to the other.

The 11 month window will be different. Each is its own trip so booking one won’t give you an advantage over the other.

As mentioned, getting a transfer is the best way. But those points can not be in banked or borrowed status. And, once you move them, they have to stay in that membership.

The good news is that points now work online, but I have heard that booking at 11 months still requires a call.

I believe it has to do with the fact that OTU points can’t be used until 7 months so the system was set up to use both those and transferred points the same way online.

I was afraid of that! Wish the transfer rules were more flexible. Not sure I understand why DVC would care if I transfer points between my own contracts. But those are the rules, so be it and thx.

You can transfer points between both. You just can’t transfer the reservation.

The only other limit is that points can’t be in banked or borrowed status to transfer.

One benefit they do allow to owners of multiple UYs is more than one between your own memberships. I was told last year it’s a fairly new rule but I was allowed several.

Thanks, that makes all the difference. If transfers are unlimited between UY, rather than limited to just one transfer per year, it takes the pressure off. If that’s the case, one can easily move the points all to the same membership, and then book as many nights as needed all at once. I was worried about burning my “one and only” transfer, then needing it later (to send points to friends/family DVC members for example).

Yes it is a nice benefit. Now, you can’t move the same points back. Just that you can move more than once between yourself.

Of course, still limited to one when going to someone else, but it can help if you transfer some and then need a few more later on. I usually book different nights on each, but in a pinch, it’s a good thing.

Sorry to hijack this a little, but I feel others may benefit from this question as well and may come across this thread.

We just added on by getting Riviera points, but we have the same use year, does this also behave like two separate memberships or is treated more like one where we don't have to transfer points?

As long as it’s the same UY and with the same owners, it will be one membership. So, each set of points can be used at their home resort during home resort period,

At 7 months, you can use them to book all the resorts, assuming your other points are qualified to book RIV and the RIV points were bought direct.

I am soon to have two UYs (Feb & April) as soon as Disney loads them. Do you have to have two separate Disney account log-ins or do both memberships show up under my existing account?

Following. Curious about this too as I’m waiting on resale contract to close with different UY. But we also have different owners (adult kids are on the direct contract). I’m hoping I can get to both memberships with the same username...

Same log in. I had 3 until I sold BWV. You toggle between them when booking, but the dashboard will show both and so will the vacation points page.

Is this an "official" rule? I'm not doubting you but wanted to make sure it's not being done as pixie dust on a case by case basis. This would make owning separate UYs more attractive to me.

I was told last year by the 3 different CMs that they dealt with that it was. I transferred twice between myself and once to a stranger with no issue.

Since I talked to different people each time, I was given the same info.

When I did that last transfer to the stranger, she saw I had done two and had to double check those were indeed between my own accounts, but after verifying no issue at all!

Obviously, you could get a CM who says it’s not. Just call back. One CM told me it has to be a three way call and just said I’d call right back and talk to someone else. Sure enough, they had no problem without the other owner on the line.

I am a little confused. What does the UY have to do with the booking window? The 11 months is based on your home resort, and the OP said that both contracts have the same home resort. The easiest thing to do is make a reservation for the 1st 2 nights at 11 months with 1 contract, and "walk" the 5 day reservation with the 2nd contract. Then call MS to have the two linked so you will have a continuous stay.

Because it would be 2 separate reservations the window for each part would open 11 months from the beginning of each part of the stay. So they could either book 2 days or 5 days and then at the 11 month window for the second portion they would have to book that part with the other contract. While this seems easy enough there are some reservations that can be difficult to get at 11 months so it would be nice to only have to try to get it once.

I would book the 1st part of the reservation using Membership A and then call Member Services to transfer points from B to A and have them book the remaining nights. It's still a phone call but there's no risk of possibility having to move rooms.

AFAIK, UY has very little to do with the 11-month booking window as long as you are transferring/using points that can be used during the reservation period. IOW, if I transferred April 2022 points to my December membership, I would not be able to use those points for a Feb 2022 stay, even though I could use my December 2021 points for it.

I think this is the cleanest approach. Very helpful thank you!
