Booking when nothing is available

If I remember correctly, I saw a previous post about being able to sometimes book a resort with points even if it's showing as unavailable on the DVC site...something about calling 10 days out. Can anyone confirm this? And does it have a good likelihood of working out, or is it a pretty far fetched thing (assuming there is availability at the resort at all...) thx!

It's right on the booking page, where you put in dates and pick the resort and room type. I noticed it today.

i expect it will typically be a rare thing to pick up a room in the last 10 days that was listed as completely booked online...
