For those of you who have tried either -or both - of these, looking for some feedback to help in determining best home resort...

Want to know how successful ppl may have been at booking either of these at 7 months out...

VWL studio at Christmas (typically starting around the 19th or 20th) and staying for up to a week.

OR

BWV studio mid October Thursday thru Sunday or Monday (for food and wine)

Thanks!

Good luck! We own at both because we want standard view at BWV and VWL studio for just before Christmas!

End of Sep to Monday after marathon weekend in Jan: DVC's highest demand quarter at WDW by far, during which near park resorts can be difficult to get 7 months out; mid-October is one of the highest demand times during that period; Dec 23 to Jan 2 is the second highest demand week of the year (first week of Dec is the highest, second week of Dec is third highest, right around Thanksgiving is fourth and mid-October is fifth). In comparison to that quarter, the rest of the year, including all of ithe holidays from mid-Jan through Sep, is like low off-season. At VWL, you have a decent chance of getting Dec 19 through 21 at 7 months out because third week of December is one of the respites during that high demand quarter, but getting the rest of the week you want will be difficult. For getting BWV studio in mid-October: possible if only looking for three nights and pool/garden view, but still substantial risk otherwise; if looking for boardwalk or standard view, chances are slim to none.

This will be impossible if you want either Standard View to save points or Boardwalk View. Studios in those two booking categories sell out very early in the 11 month window. If you don't mind the Pool/Garden View rooms, you might get lucky once in a while provided you avoid Columbus Day weekend which sometimes falls in mid Oct.

Many people purchase add ons at BWV specifically to book F&W, after having been shut out at the 7 month window. This has skewed the demand for BWV in October. As this trend continues, it will just get harder to get a Studio at BWV during that time. If you move up to a 1BR you will have better luck getting something 7 months out, though you would probably still be looking at a Pool/Garden View room. I've had trouble getting a 1BR Std or Boardwalk View at 9 months out for October. I got all but one of my nights (a night in the middle!) and had to sweat it out for months until my waitlist for that one night finally came through.

The two options you are asking about are two of the biggest reasons why people buy contracts at those particular resorts. Epcot resorts (BWV and BCV) during F&W and VWL at Christmas are notoriously hard to get and are sometimes simply impossible beyond a reservation of a couple of days. If you're picking between them in your home-resort decision, you should be honest with yourself about which time period you see yourself visiting Disney more.
