booking VRBO instead of hotel

We always stay at hotels on Katella, but pricing is getting out of hand and even our go to Americas Best Value Inn is getting too expensive.
I'm considering getting a VRBO but have never done it before.

I see most seem to be around Walnut and say they are a quick walk to Disneyland Hotel to catch monorail or walk thru DTD.

Any insight on this?
The reason we need the extra room is because my Husband and I are separated but still travel together with the kids, so we like to have dedicated sleeping areas as well as make our own breakfast and give the kids room to run around in.

I do see that Get Away Today have some pretty good pricing on the Castle Inn for their 2 room suite but you have to pay upfront and I don't have the money to do that yet - we haven't even booked our flights (dates in Anaheim will most likely be Sep 3-10)

I'm not up to date on the very latest, but some years ago City of Anaheim put some kind of kibosh on vacation rentals. IIRC there were some exemptions for current rentals and then some 'jiggling' of the rules, but just be sure that you check very carefully to be sure that wherever you consider renting is legit.

Also, although the area around S Walnut 'behind' DLR may look like a 'quick walk', be sure you use Google Earth street view to do a virtual walk. I've seen some 'quick walks' that are pretty darn far in 'real life' And some places that look like walkways have gates and some parking lots that look like 'walk throughs' are actually fenced. Plus consider that the construction at DLH may also have blocked other access points.

Definitely caveat emptor.

We’ve driven up Walnut and there’s a lot of fencing behind DLH. I believe the Simba lot also is fenced (it definitely is along Katella).

We did a VRBO in Nov 2018, based on a recommendation from friends who stayed there in July 2017. The house is kitty corner from the Holiday Inn on Walnut. Between the time our friends stayed there and the time we did, the easy access to the Mickey & Friends parking structure was blocked off. They walked about a quarter mile from the house to the structure; we had to walk about 3/4 mile because we had to go all the way around.

That said, I would still recommend the house. There were 10 of us. The house had 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, and we never felt cramped or like we couldn't get some space when needed. There was also a pool and hot tub. We did get an uber one time and I think it was like $5. I am happy to share the info through a message if you would like.

That would be great thanks.
There are literally hundreds of reviews saying how great they are so figure I may just give it a try.
