Booking through Disney Vs. outside DVC rental company...

Hi everyone,

I am currently planning a trip to Disney, though I have been before, this will be the first time I am booking the trip myself. I was curious as to how buying points for animal kingdom Savannah view through David's vacation club rental is cheaper than booking coronado springs Oct. 7th-13th 2017 through Disney itself. Am I missing something, can someone help explain this to me?

Owner's who aren't going to be using their points get David's to rent them out. According to what type room you want, renting the points can be cheaper than a moderate. The rub is that points are not always available for what you want, when you want them and you have to pay up front, with no refund should you cancel.

But I will do my best, as we use DVC rental companies, rent directly from members, or just book with Disney. I don't know that I would say it's that you are booking a Deluxe for less than a Moderate. It's more that you are renting points from someone to stay in a Deluxe DVC room for cheaper than you could book that room straight from Disney. For example, we have booked a BLT 2BR suite for a full family trip in October through a DVC rental company. I can tell you for certain, it's not necessarily cheaper than a Moderate, but it's much cheaper than I could have booked BLT directly through Disney. To be honest, the chances of my actually getting a BLT 2BR from Disney is pretty slim anyway.

There are many reasons to look at DVC point rental, but actual cost usually isn't one of them. However, actual VALUE is. We are a family of 6, so when we all go, our choices are fairly limited. We can do ASMu, AoA, FW Cabins, a smattering of Deluxes, or get a Deluxe DVC Villa. From a comfort perspective, we usually either choose AoA or a 2BR Deluxe Villa. The value there is high for what we pay, but it's not necessarily the cheaper option for us.

Whether you rent from a DVC rental company, or deal directly with an owner, the basic idea is they have points they are not going to use, so they offer those points at a discounted rate to others who would like to use them. How discounted varies. Often, the harder part is availability to stay where you want to stay.

That was a lot of typing, and I barely scratched the surface, but I hoped that helped, at least.

Thank you so much for all the info, it was extremely helpful! I didn't think to post in the DVC rental board which was not smart on my part, but I appreciate you taking the time out to explain everything to me :) When I priced everything out, going through a rental will save me over $1000 to stay in a better hotel, I will just have to keep my fingers crossed and hope dates are available!

thank you for the info as well. Though I don't like the idea of having to pay all upfront without being able to cancel, it would save me money in the long run

You may want to look at buying trip insurance since the DVC point rental is nonrefundable. I'm doing my first trip with rented points in September and purchased trip insurance to cover me in case we have to cancel.

It is also important to make the decision quickly. Availability for fall disappears quickly, and while AKV Savannah is among the last to go, by March and the 7 month window it will be gone. There is no guarantee a broker will have points to book the room with, or that the room you calculated cost for will be available.

That is the trade off. The less expensive rate has strict conditions and limitations. You have to decide what you want.

There are other company that are most flexible with payment if you shop around. I've used David's and DVC Rental Store (which allows you to break up payment.) That said, I'd still recommend David's 100%. Their service is excellent and simple!

thank you for that info, I know I have to book quickly, just trying to convince my family it is worth it and not a scam :/
