Hi,

I have made my flight reservations so now I want to book rooms at WDW. I am going to try to rent points, should I reserve a room with CRO also just in case renting does not work out?
Can there be any problems if I have to shorten my reservation with CRO?

Thanks,
Mick:)

If you want to rent points I would go over to the DVC rent trade board and follow the directions to post about renting. I have once and had no issues, most people are great over there. If you feel it isnt owrking out call WDW and book a room, but booking DVC units through disney is $$ and you would probably get a better deal renting, you can also the DDP with renting. When are you going ?

Alicnwondrln,

We are going Oct 27 - to Nov 9.

Do you think that I should book a room with now CRO (eg. CSR) in case I can not rent points?

Thanks for your help,
Mick:)

Mick:

There's no harm in booking a room only someplace. It only requires one nights deposit.. and can be cancelled or shortened anytime prior to 6 days before arrival with no penalty.

So .. it seems like a good idea for a safety net.

you are traveling during the Food and Wine festival so there is very little chance that you'd get something available renting at BWV or BCV. But if you aren't picky about your resort I wouldn't think you'd have a problem getting in at least Saratoga Springs, if not Old Key West. I would post your desired reservation on the rent/trade board immediately. I believe you will be within the 7 month window in the next couple of weeks to where any member can get you a reservation regardless of their home resort. If you can't get anyone to rent you points by the next few weeks, you could call CRO and I'm sure you'd be able to find a room somewhere. Good luck! We will be there Oct 24-31!! We also rented DVC points and will be staying at BCV! Luckily a couple months ago we found someone to rent from who had BCV as their home resort.

Yes, you should absolutely rent a room with CRO just in case. A lot of it will depend on what resort you are trying to get. The Food & Wine Fest is in full swing that week, so odds are that BWV and BCV are already sold out. VWL is small and is usually the first to overflow from the other two, so your odds there may be iffy. There is more than likely space at OKW and SSR.

The CRO backup is a good idea because that ressie can be cancelled right up pretty close to check in if you get lucky with a DVC rental.

Be aware that there is a 7 - 11 month window where only owners at particular DVC resorts can book. For instance I own at BWV, so for the week you are looking at, I could have booked a reservation at BWV anytime starting last December 9th (11 months from your checkout). On April 9th a DVC owner who has home status at any DVC resort can book a reservation. So, starting April 9th you have a bigger pool of owners that could rent to you. The down side is that you have a bigger pool of competition if you are particular about the resort you want.

Hope I haven't confused things.:thumbsup2

OP, I thought I would have trouble renting points. I posted on a couple of the offers and within a couple days I had people offering me first dibs on their points BEFORE they posted them live on the rent boards. Its an excellent option. The only drawback is when renting points it is usually a CASH transaction (i.e., you must pay for it immediately as opposed to making payments) and you cannot change your mind once purchased.

It was the inability to change my mind that caused me to keep my original ressie and not rent points. But I am sure that I will be doing that in the future. The cost difference was HUGE for renting a 2 br villa at BWV.
