We're going to CA for 10 days next summer, with approximately 4 nights in DLR. I'm worried about getting VGC at 7 months (we'd prefer a 2BR), so I was thinking about booking a regular room at GC, DLH or PP at the 11mo window to have a place to stay, and then trying for VGC at 7mo.

It looks like the $95 charge doesn't apply to DLR resorts, which is nice. I hope this isn't looked at as double-booking.

I think this is really my only option strategy-wise. Does anyone have a better solution? Do I have a decent chance of getting VGC at 7mo? Thanks!

i'm pretty sure if you book a DLH room with DVC pts and cancel that reservation, you would be left with reservation pts, which cannot be used to book DVC villas, including those at the VGC.

so there's that...

but a cash reservation at 11 months would be fine.

If you use points to book a room at a DLR hotel, you are effectively trading out to the Disney collection. Those points can not become DVC points again. In addition, only points purchased directly from Disney can be traded into the Disney collection.

I would recommend the reverse order. Wait till the 7 month mark and book the villa. If none are available, you can then book a hotel room with the points at DLR.

Thanks for the info. I had forgotten about the reservation points conversion. All of our points are direct from Disney, so we're good to go there.

Man, I hope we can get that villa at 7mo.
