Booking short trips at 7 months- easier than getting a week? experiences?

We are looking for a non-home resort stay at 7 months out but are only hoping for 3 nights in early December. I have only been DVC member for a few months so I have yet to see exactly what IS available at that time, which I know is THE busiest time. Most people say there is no chance during this week, but what I haven't seen answered is if we have a chance at getting a short trip of 3 nights at BLT, wed-friday for a 2br. Dont care about view. Anyone with experiences not looking for a long stay during this busy time?

Here is what was available at BLT for a 2BR at exactly 7 months out in 2014:

When checking exactly seven months out for the week beginning Sunday, Nov 30 to Sunday, Dec 7: all 2BR lockoffs gone all nights; standard and theme park dedicated 2BR open only Dec 2; lake view dedicated 2BR open only Nov 30 and Dec 5.

When checking exactly 7 months out for Wednesday, December 3, to Sunday, Dec 7, 2014 (the same weekend you want ): all BLT 2BRs gone all nights. For that time exactly 7 months the only 2BRs on site that were open for Dec 3-7 at 7 months out were SSR and OKW (other than Hospitality House Location). Even AKV Kidani standard and savanna view were missing one of the nights, Dec 4 (Jambo two of the nights).

If you have enough points, I would hold on to your home resort reservation and book the nights at BLT as they come up. Things shift a bit after 7m, especially after people finalize their travel plans. You also have to be diligent in checking and get on the waiting list.

thanks friends. From my experiences so far, availability changes constantly. I constantly will see random nights pop up after the 7 month mark has passed. I think I am just wondering because these 2 weeks are considered the hardest weeks to book at a non home resort so in my mind, im wondering if i will see 3 nights pop up here and there (like i often do) or if there isnt a chance for any availability as things get closer. I guess I will just have to see for myself! thanks for all the input and suggestions!!

Things change regularly so yes, there is always a chance that three consecutive nights will show up. But, your best chance to get it is to book those 3 nights at your home resort and waitlist a night at a time at BLT for the ones you want, as well as check the website regularly and swap when you can. I have been very successful in getting what I want for short trips this way when I decided late in the game. It wasn't the first week in December, but popular fall times.
