tried booking online and got a message pops up saying "your dates cannot overlap two use years". my use year is october. i tried booking end of sept into first week of oct. never heard of this. is this a glitch.

I've heard of that happening.
I think you can either book 2 trips (1 in each UY) and then ask MS to combine them, or call.

I'm guessing the online system can't handle the potential of using 4 UY's of points on that stay . You could use banked 2013 + 2014 + borrowed 2015 points for September, and use banked 2014 + 2015 + borrowed 2016 points for the October portion of the stay.

Online booking can't cross your UY, you need to call or book 2 separate reservations and have MS merge them later.

Booking a stay across UYs is complicated for the reasons hakepb stated. It's not a glitch, it's a special case. It makes sense to me that they opted not to spend the money to develop special software to handle it.

It would be interesting to know if MS does in fact merge two reservations that span a UY or if they link them.
