I own at VGC and right now am looking at either a June 2012 trip to VGC or a January 2012 trip to Disney World hoping for AKL. I may not know for a month or two which trip will be taken as I have to wait to see if my mom can afford to take all my younger siblings to FL or not.

My question is if I book a room for June at the 11 month window and find out later we are instead going to FL what happens to my points? Will they just get moved from one resort stay to another or will I end up with them going into a holding account or something.

Points do not go into holding unless you cancel a reservation less than 31 days out.

What is your use year and are any of the points borrowed?

Also it depends on how many points you used?

When you cancel more than 30 days from date of arrival, points go back into your account as they existed on the reservaton -- current use year points remain current use year points, banked points and borrowed points remain banked or borrowed.

Generally when you cancel more than 30 days out you can then just switch the points to another reservation but we cannot tell whether that is the case for you because we don't know which points you will use for that June trip. Example, suppose you have a February use year. If you reserve for June 2012 using Feb 2012 use year points, and points banked from Feb 2011, you will not be able to use those Feb 2012 points for the Jan trip without borrowing them and you will not be able to use any points banked into the Feb 2012 use year because they remain banked when you cancel and cannot be used for a trip before Feb 2012.

Thank you for the replies. I have a June use year and if I go in January will need all o this years points and most of next years but if I go in June I'll only need like 3 points from next year and all of this year as I'll only need one studio because less people are going if I do VGC,

With a June UY, your trips will take place in two different UY's.

To book your June 2012 UY trip using THIS UY's points (June 2011), you would have to bank them into your June 2012 UY since that is when the VGC trip will take place. Once you do that, you will not be able to bring them back to cover your Jan 2012 trip since that takes place in your June 2011 UY.
