So I think I know the answer but want to confirm with you all.

my use year is February and I have no 2023 points left. I want to book a trip for mid February 2024. If I book now I will be using my 2024 points correct Because it’s after I get my new allotment of points.
I will be booking a resort that’s not my home resort but I’m in the 7 month window.
if I have to cancel as long as I do it more than 30 days in advance my points will just go back to my 2024 use year and if needed can be banked right?

Yes. It's not a question of when you get the new allotment, but when the points are valid for stays. Even if you had 2023 pts, you'd be using 2024 points (unless you banked the 2023 pts first), because those are the pts valid for a Feb 2024 stay.

If you cancel, yes, they drop back into 2024 and you can bank them if you don't cancel late and let them drop into holding status.

So niche booking question. We are doing an AKL stay with family next year. We were originally booked for two studio rooms but we have picked up nights in a value studio as people walked their reservations forward. The one bedroom value rooms are still available for booking on the nights we have a value studio booked. So my question is this if we have a value studio booked at akl, and we booked the 1 bedroom value room for the same days, can we call members services had have them combine the reservations into a 2 bedroom lockoff? Thanks

You can try but there is no guarantee.. because it does require a cancel and rebook and someone or the system can grab it.

Now, I have been able to accomplish this on own...it was risky but it has worked...when trying to get a 2 bedroom SV at RIV. I had the SV studio already, and 1 bedrooms were there still there and I took a risk to try it on my own.

I booked the PV studio as a back up...I did have extra points in case it didn't work....I then canceled the SV studio, quickly went back in and modified the 1 bedroom and it now showed the 2 bedroom for booking...it was only three nights and really had hoped the waitlist didn't snag them...it didn't.

Do we have any idea how quickly the waitlist picks up rooms it's supposed to pick up? I heard it only checks for matches a few times a day? Or does the system pick up the rooms fairly quickly if it becomes available and then the booking doesn't occur until it's manually booked by a CM?

No one knows for sure. I have canceled and have rooms still be there and have canceled a room and have only two of the three nights show back up, or them not show up at all.

I have found that when you cancel one night at a time it tends to show up…and I have done thst to try to switch which membership I am using..but, I did get burned a few times so I always have a back up.
