I want to book a GV for 5 nights but I only have enough Home resort points for the 1st day. The remaining nights will be from one of my BWV contracts at the 7 month window. The 1st day of my resv is 4/4, I booked the 1st night with my home resort points. I called to see if the best way to move forward was to modify my existing resv each day to grab the next day up as it becomes available in the 7 month window. She said I could call on 9/4 and book the entire stay if I call on the 4th because I can resv up to 10 days even though those days are technically 11 month window days. So I asked if that's the case then the my one 11 month window day does not give me any benefit or jump on getting the days I want. Is that true? Have I missed an opportunity to hedge my dates? I'm confused by this transition point.

Right now what’s the availability of the GV for the dates you want? If there is a GV available for 9/4, then yes, you can book your whole stay if there’s availability for all the days. Your holding of the first day only guarantees you that first day, and you would only be able to book the first night with BWV IF there was a GV available.

So, I agree with you that holding that first day only doesn’t really give you an advantage. Maybe I don’t see something.

If you call on 9/4 and 4/4 is available then you can book it all as it will be in the 7 month window. I've heard mixed things where MS will book the remainder with 7 month points even if the first night isn't available any longer but people have also been denied. ie - I don't know what the outcome will end up being if 9/4 isn't available. Technically they shouldn't let you book the rest until 9/5 if 9/4 isn't available.

Ok so that confirms that you can book the whole week, thanks. But I already have 9/4 booked with 11 month pnts., so like Bobbiwoz said no real benefit to the one day w/11 month points. Did I need to book the day before I wanted the trip to actually start?

With only one night, it really doesn’t matter, in order to add more dates available for you to book.

So, on 9/4, you can go in and modify what you have, choose the dates you want and if they show up as bookable, then make sure you choose both contracts as it will keep your home resort contract locked.

It should allow you to book with your BWV points up to 7 days.

This strategy does work to get an edge on the 7 month booking window if you book a number of days 11 months out and then on the first day of your trip (7 months out) you can start using points from another home resort to book the remainder of your stay. It technically does give you a slight advantage.

Wow, never thought of doing it that way. Thanks for sharing. Not that I will ever get a chance to do that, since I don't own any WDW resort. But it's amazing to me what people can think of and come up with.

Great3

When you do a modify of the reservation you booked with the 11 month booking window points at the 7 month window can you change what contracts and the amount of points used from each like you can when first creating the reservation and it asks you what contracts you want to use? Or is it once its booked with those points you can't change the contracts used even if subtracting or adding days to the reservation.

When you modify an 11 month reservation at 7 months, I have found that it keeps the initial contract locked, but will pick up any banked or borrowed points from the other one if there is still availability at your home resort, of even when changing resorts,

Now, there have been times when i went back in a second time, after changing the resort and booking, and the contract was not locked and I was able to switch things around.

But, it will not let you substitute non home current UY points for rooms booked during the home resort period unless there is still rooms and again, not easily online I have found.

Okay, that makes sense, thanks. So, follow up question. If I book a trip that is 159 points at a non home resort, the contracts page asks which contracts to use. I select CCV 20 points as first contract and then SSR 139 points as second contract. I then later change my mind and move my reservation around which then my trip only uses 139 points at the same room and non home resort. Does that mean the CCV 20 points will be cancelled and put back and only use the SSR 139 points ? I was going to ask this to MS but they are closed, but I might still have to, if no one here knows. My thought was yes as that is why they ask about 1st, 2nd, etc.. and how many for contracts to use.

When you go to modify, as long as the CCV contract is checked to be used first, it will take the 20 and then only 119 from SSR.

If you changed your mind and wanted only the SSR, then as long as nothing is locked, you can uncheck and check SSR to be used first, which will leave your 20 CCV.

But if both contracts are checked, regardless of first or second, it will always pull banked and borrowed points from both to use, even if it doesn’t look like it will.

Thanks. What are the causes that will make you not able to uncheck the first contract?

They will lock down the contract when it has been used in a reservation booked in the home resort priority period.

Even when I have modified at 7 months to another resort, it has stayed locked. So, I just book anyway and then go back a second time and it’s usually unlocked and I can choose a different contract to use, But, a few times it didn’t and not sure why but it was fine because I wasnt changing points anyway.

Thanks! The points will be used in the 7 month non home resort period for a non home resort, so I should be okay.
