I'm a teacher and can only travel in June-August. If we were booking 7 months out, would we be able to get a spot SOMEWHERE at Disney? My dh wants to look into buying into Vero Beach now and then adding on next year at one of the resorts. We definitely would go to Vero beach regularly, but are mainly wanting to buy into DVC for Disney World. If we wanted to go to Disney, I want to make sure it is likely we can get in.

It may depend on the size of the villa you need, but if you can be flexible on your dates and where you stay I am sure you could get something. We are fairly new members but I think that the key is to call right at the 7 month mark. We have never had a problem getting what we want except for Concierge.

The summer months are actually easier to book at 7 months than many other months of the year. I don[t think you will have a problem getting something at 7 months.

I think the key is booking "somewhere" at your 11 month window. If your home resort happens to be VB then you have a great spot for the summer from what I have read. At your 7 month window call and see what and where there is availablity. This is our hope for next October...currently booked at home resort OKW and will call the day of 7 month window to see if we can switch to VB.

I'd look over your purchase and really think about how often you're going to plan on going to VB. If you're talking once every 3 - 4 years, it would probably be better to buy in at a resort in Disney World.

The member fees at VB are the highest of all the resorts.

I booked at 7 months for aug and got a 2 br mk view blt. I had a choice of lake view or mk view - standard was gone. I got blt at 7 months for a studio last year, too for aug. Easiest to get lake view- standard and mk weren't avail. You'll do fine at 7 mos- just be a little flexible such as view, dates or resort and you'll get something great. The year before was my first summer as a dvc member. We just closed in June and for aug I got 2 nights bc and 7 nights vwl in a studio. Don't worry but do call at 7 mos for best selection.

I travel in the summer and have not had a problem getting late July/early August reservations at the 7 month mark.

We booked BLT at 11 months and then were able to get BCV studio for 3 nights in 2010, and this year, got 2 nights at BWV in a BW view room.

I don't think you will have any trouble getting rooms during the summer, especially since you will have the flexibility to choose your dates.

Good luck!

We usually vacation in the summer in studios (August now usually) and have been able to get something each time so far. We have used OKW, BCV, HHI and VB during August. We got AKV Kidani for spring break last year and BLT was available then too if we'd wanted to use that many points. We got our home resort of SSR at 3 months out. We always call with a Plan A & a Plan B so I think as long as you're flexible and want to resort hop you should be OK. For the smaller, harder to get resorts I am sure to call RIGHT at the 7 month mark.

I recently booked OKW for July 1-8, the only problem being that I couldn't get a room near the HH, so I'm waitlisted for a room close to HH. I also had no problems booking a June weekend stay @ BLT (my home resort) in January.

Summer is actually an average to moderate demand time for the WDW DVC resorts except for a few days before to a few days after July 4 which is very high demand time and getting anything at 7 months for that holiday time is hit or miss with missing occurring more often than not except for possibly SSR or OKW. As long as you do not regularly want that holiday time, you should be able to find something at most of the resorts, and SSR (and sometimes OKW and even AKV savanna view) is often available for summer at much less than 7 months out.

Note, however, there are certain things you should not assume you will usually get at 7 month -- BLT MK or standard view, BWV boardwalk or lower point standard view, AKV concierge or low point cost value rooms, and BCV and VWL which as small resorts can be hit or miss at 7 months anytime of year.

Vero has an expiration date of 2042 (which is same as HH, BWV, BCV and VWL) while SSR is 2054, AKV 2057, and BLT 2060 and thus you should consider length of contract in the evaluation; OKW has contracts in the resale market with its orginal 2042 end date but through Disney you get the extension to 2057. Vero also has the highest annual dues, which you should factor in in determining actuall overall cost in comparison to others. If, in fact, you really want to be at WDW most times, you should really consider purchasing at a WDW resort.

I had to change our BCV studio over the 4th of July to an earlier week in June at 6 months out. I feel so happy that we got the whole week at BCV, booking that late in the game. DS/DDiL asked us to watch their dogs and I just didn't want to say no, but I'll miss the 4th of July festivites in WDW this year.

We go to WDW in June and usually book at the 7 month window. We have not had any problems getting rooms.

My wife is a teacher too!

We booked SSR for our July trip at 11 months and at 7 months decided to change to AKV - standard view. No problems at all.

Last year I was able to get a Savannah view 2-bed (dedicated) at Kidani at 7 months for a mid-August Trip.

And last month I successfully switched to a 2-bed (dedicated) LV at BLT for another mid-August trip.

We have yet to stay in our home resort (OKW) and have been able to book at BWV (Boardwalk view in a 1-bdr, then a Garden view in a 2-bdr), AKV-Kidani (Savannah view in a 2-bdr) and BLT (standard view in a 1-bdr). We go the last week in August right up until Labor Day every year.

We own at BLT, but we were able to get a studio like we wanted for VWL at the 7 month mark easily. At the same time, I was also able to get a studio at BLT for a couple days after the week at VWL, again with no problems. I was sure BLT would be full for August, but no issues! :) I doubt I would wait much longer than the 7 month limit though for certain resorts, just to be sure I got what my family wanted. Maybe larger units fill up faster, but we calculated, and points for 2 studios are less than a 1 or 2 bedroom sometimes. Good luck!

Studios usually go first because of the reason you noted. They don't require as many points. But later August is usually easier than earlier in the summer.

The only problem with getting two studios instead of a larger villa is that there is no guarantee that they will be close to each other. And one studio will never connect to another.

I don't think anyone mentioned that at any point in time, DVC does have the ability to change their "rules" and limit your bookings to only your Home Resort. I would think very carefully about doing this if you are not looking to primarily stay at Vero in the future. One never knows and we have seen some changes over the years...

I agree with CarolAnn.
You should buy where you are not disappointed. If they make a new rule.. only 50% of points can be used at non home resort or something, or worse, you need to be okay with getting home resort.

I know others say book where you want to stay. More important if you are trying to save a little $$, is book where you are okay if you have to perm. stay there.

OKW and SSR are similar pricing and you can stay at WDW.
