I was curious if anyone has made multiple reservations for 2 families or more at the same time. We are planning on going with our in-laws. We want a room and they want their own room. If I was to rent DVC points is that something that is easy done?

Yes, it’s not too bad. I’ve done this on a few occasions with renting. I’ve only used a rental agency rather than renting from a single owner of points. It’s a good idea to plan these mult-family rentals well in advance of the 11 month booking window. The only downside will be the potential wait for each of the owners to confirm that they have secured your preferred reservation and your preferred location/room type. It can save quite a bit of money for your friends and family, and helping them with the rental process is usually appreciated.

if your family members have not rented DVC before, there is obviously less flexibility for them once they have made the rental and signed the rental agreement. For larger groups this can introduce a bit of stress or potential inconvenience in contrast to a hotel reservation. Spending a bit of time explaining this and the rental contract process can save your some grief.

I was reading a bit more on rentals since my post above and see that there is some flexibility in renting that wasn’t there when I made multiple rental reservations for a large group some time ago. Specifically, the board sponsor has a “stress free cancellation policy” that appears to make cancellation of a reservation somewhat less painful with a rental:

Hotel reservations would still be more flexible, but the cost savings with a rental may be worth the extra planning required.

Good skills with your trip planning!

Hey! Thank you for responding, I have rented before from members but never a company. Seems like I will just have to make sure that the person or company that I am renting from knows that I will need 2 reservations for the same time. Or have them make 2 and have my in-law fill one out and I fill out the other.

Hopefully, one owner will have enough points for both reservations. Be sure to ask the broker to note "traveling with" on both reservations. The resort will try to get the rooms close to each other, that way.

To add, depending on what you are looking for, and time two rooms can be tough. Just be sure that whomever you book with knows if you want it to be all or nothing.

Since the terms with individual owners can be quite different, be sure you are comfortable with all the terms and they meet your needs.

An agency will have terms that apply to all so the consistency of the contract will be there if you go with them!

This past weekend I booked three DVC rooms for next Thanksgiving for a three family trip. The booking process for the three rooms took 10 minutes, tops.

Did you happen to go through a company, or an individual? Or, did you book your own DVC room?

Great Advice thank you.

There is a robust rental forum here. Each contract will have its unique terms. I’d also suggest looking at some of the companies and their reviews on these forums. I’ve only ever used a company in times prior to becoming a DVC owner. That was best for my comfort level in those times. However, there are many great examples of excellent direct individual rental experiences that may serve as a good alternative as you make your decision.
