Booking more than one room with AP

Hi, a friend has decided to go WDW, in October, during the same time frame as her mother who holds an AP. Her mom will be staying at a value, but my friend would like to stay at AKL. I know her mom can book up to 3 rooms with her AP, but am confused if they can be at different hotels. Also, my friend and her family would arrive at their chosen hotel about 5 days after her mother arrives at hers. Is this possible? I was under the impression that the rooms all had to be at the same resort, and checking in and out, on the same day. I have told her to not base her vacation on an AP discount coming out in October as there are no guarantees. Anyone know the answers to these questions, anyway??? Thanks in advance!
