I want book a trip now for next year, to be sure I can get the hotel I want, plane reservations, etc. BUT, if I'm planning on getting AP and AP rates don't come out until only a few months before you can use them, how do I get the discount rate now? Do I make a reservation, put no money down and hope that 12 months from now they have an AP rate? Will they let me keep my current reservation, but just change the rate? Will they tell me they are all booked, even though I would be one of the bookings? I hope I'm clear on my question. Thank you for any help!

The minute you make your reservation you will charged a nights rate to hold the theme at the current rate. That is with all Disney resorts. Then you can keep calling to get the AP or DC rate as they come out. If you get one, then they will change your reservation to reflect the price difference.

Sorry

If you absolutely want to be guaranteed a room for specific dates, you can book it now, and will need to put down a deposit. It's always a gambel whether you can snag an AP rate. There seem to be "manager's specials" and 'upsells, also, so there are some other options for getting a good rate. If you don't get the discount you're looking for, you can always cancel and get your deposit back, if it's at least 5 days before arrival. It's risky to go ahead and book airfair is the trip is totally dependent on get a discount rate. I usually book them simultaneously.
Hope you're not planning a trip in Oct/Nov/Dec, because there haven't been AP rates for those months for the last few years.

Wow kda... I've not heard that before about Oct/Nov/Dec... Has anyone else noticed it?

Does the same hold true for the AAA discounts? Can I book now thru CRO and keep calling later for my discouint when the AAA discounts become available? Could I also at the time the AAA discounts become available, upgrade if there was a special?

I just do not want to make my reservations now and not be able to change them.

Does anyone know if there is usually a discount for AAA for the value resorts during value season? If so, how much?

Thanks to all-

I know folks have gotten the AAA/DC rates for Oct/Nov/Dec--but you need to be lucky to get them as soon as they are released, as they go fast.

I'm fairly flexible about when to go. I want to go when it's warm enough to go swimming during the day, but when crowds are not that bad. We went in Feb. '99 and it was perfect. We used the AP pass then, but that trip was only planned shortly before we actually went. We would like to plan next year in advance, which lead to my question. I'm just afraid that if I wait until close to trip time (in order to know what the AP rates are), I won't be able to get a reasonable airfare. Catch 22!! Thanks for the replies, everyone.
