We are planning on heading down to WDW on 12/29/2012. We don't want to go earlier, because we are planning to be on the Dream on 1/2/2013. We own at BLT. Do you think we will be able to get a reservation @ 11 months, or do you think we will need to walk this reservation? We would prefer a standard studio. We are planning on trying to switch to AKV at 7 months, but I would like to make sure we at least have a reservation at 11 months.

Just want to say that December for you next year sounds wonderful. Can I join you? ;)

And by the way, in 2007 we stayed at AKV for 6 nights over Xmas (Dec. 20-26). What a wonderful trip that was! AKV is not our home resort. We had booked at SSR at 11 months out & then called at 7 months out to switch. We were able to without any problems or waitlisting. Not sure if that helps you or not.

Normally, I do not recommend walking as it is very seldom necessary.

However, in your case, you want a standard view studio reservation (limited number and very popular) during the busiest week of the year and your desired time frame includes NYE (most popular night of the year).

You should walk - I'd start calling on January 21 (for a reservation that begins on December 21) and walk from there. Good luck

Can someone explain "walking" a reseration for me please?

Is triple ditto a thing?

Walking a reservation is calling and making a reservation that begins before your actual arrival date. Then you call back and drop the beginning night and add on a night to the end of the reservation. You continue to do this until you end up with the reservation you want.

For example, if you want 12/29/12 - 1/2/2012:

You would normally call on 1/29/12 to make the reservation. But because that week is so incredibly popular, and you want something in short supply like a standard view studio at BLT or BWV, it is very possible that you will find no availability because members whose stays begin before yours have already booked up those days. (They could start calling earlier than you because their stays begin before yours).

So instead you call on 1/22 and make a reservation for 7 nights. If you get that reservation, you are now guaranteed to get 12/29 -1/2 if you "walk" the reservation. No one else can call for 12/29 until 1/29/12.

But you can call before that to add nights to your reservation. So if the last night you really want is 1/1/2013, as long as you call on or before 1/28/2012 to add the nights of 12/29, 12/30, 12/31 & 1/1 to your reservation, you are guaranteed to get it. MS will also allow you to drop the beginning nights of the reservation - the ones you do not want.

The key to success is to get the first reservation.

Again, this is VERY SELDOM necessary. It only works for the 11 month window.

Thanks for the info on Walking, I am thinking on buying more points so I can do christmas/new year each year or every other year and the concern I had was that I might not be able to get avalability

Thanks for chiming in! Since I have not done this before, it is a good review so I make sure I'm doing it correctly! :)

Just an update! Walking worked. I originally made a reservation for 1/24-1/30 for a standard studio @ BLT. Today I changed it to 1/30-1/2 :cool1: We are going on the Dream sailing on 1/2.

Congrats on getting your reservation!

We had no issues getting our reservations for NYE week too.

Just curious, have you checked online, particularly at 11 months from check-in, to see if you could have gotten that same reservation without walking? I don't own at BLT so I can't check myself. It would be interesting to know.

The standard views (DS, 1Br, and 2BR) at BLT are booked up over NYE right now. Also, the LV and MV of the studios are booked up.

There is availability for everything else at present (I just booked New Years week in a 2BR LV!).

We've never been over the holidays, so we're excited to get the week!

I have never walked a reservation before since I have always traveled at low season. We will be booking a GV at BLT for Christmas in 2013. Do I really need to begin "walking" this reservation starting the reservation at the beginning of December and walking all the way to Christmas???
