We're planning on a trip to HHI Thanksgiving week 2012 from Tuesday - Friday nights. Ideally we would love a Grand Villa. A two bedroom and a studio are our second choice. We have 89 points to use at the 11 month window. The rest will have to wait until 7 months out.

What's the best strategy to ensure we get at least one of our two choices? I was thinking the best plan would be to book Tue-Thu night in the 2 bedroom (75 points) plus a studio night (10 points) then book the additional nights for the studio and 2 bedroom at 7 months and waitlist for the GV at that time.

With this I plan I think we have the best chance of a place to stay for the whole trip. I worry if we book the GV for 2 nights at 11 months we will not be able to get it at 7 months and all the 2 bedrooms will be gone as well.

Any advice on the best way to approach this is appreciated.

The Studio will be the toughest reservation, so I'd grab that and as many days in the 2BR as your points will allow at 11 months and then try for the rest at 7 months. The 2BRs are normally the easiest to get at 7 months. Once you get the Studio and 2BR you can waitlist for the GV if necessary.

Good luck! :)

Although I can't help with strategy, will this be your first Thanksgiving at HHI? I'll be on the phone bright and early tomorrow, booking our 7th consecutive Thanksgiving there. The resort's always fully booked at Thanksgiving. Don't hesitate to ask questions as the time gets closer.

I live in HHI now and as DVC member, would love to book room for thanksgiving, can you tell me why it's so popular for this holiday? It's much to cold for beach things or to swim... and I noticed Xmas is booked as well. what is it that's so appealing? Inquiring minds want to know???

In all honesty, I don't know what makes that time so popular. Some years it's been warm enough for some people to swim (at least those from up north) or use the hot tub. We don't swim-to us it's the prettiest time of year there and refreshingly cool (most days we pick up the Island Packet to find our hometown is the hot spot in the nation). DH loves to run, and loves the weather to do the Piggly Wiggly Turkey Trot (although it was a little cool this year). Our time on the beach is spent in jeans and jackets bird-watching. But that's just us-for most families, who like the beach for bathing suits and swimming, I don't know the appeal. Although it IS nice not to have lines at resturaunts! And DH says the weather is just perfect for golfing.

We live in NE WA state and the temps haven't been above freezing since early November! We had a "White" Thanksgiving and will have a "White" Christmas, too. Can't wait to be in the "balmy" 60 degree weather at HHI in just a week!! LOL. Probably won't be able to swim but looking forward to the Hot Tub and seeing colors other than "White".

OMG, but why not just go to disney? I am also a weather bug, so I can tell you, you ain't seen nothing yet . Your in for lots of white stuff in between some brutal temps. I would hate to be a fisherman in the bearing sea this crab season. I can tell this winter should be relatively mild here in HH this year. IN fact, I've only had to cover the garden a few times , this week mainly, and that is about to change.
