How can I do this? CAN I do this? My entire food budget for our vacation will be paid for with Disney gift cards. I can certainly use my credit card for the hold (in case of a no-show) but I'd rather not deal with having to pre-pay, then deal with a refund when we get there. Is the HHDR even a pre-paid event? I won't be buying my TIW card until we arrive on site anyways so I won't have it at time of booking. We have never been to the show and I have heard nothing but good things about it. I would love to treat my daughters to it so I want to splurge for some Cat 1 seats but I need to make sure can work it into the budget. If I can't cover it with the gift cards, I will have to figure out an alternate plan.

They don't take any sort of payment at the show. You would not be able to hand off a gift card once you get there to pay and have your CC refunded. You may be able to do the pre-pay with a gift card if you call, but I'm not 100% sure.

HDDR is a prepaid meal/show. not sure how you can do it the way you plan. I know even with dining plan we have called in to make ressies so they would use our credits and not charge credit card. would try calling but not sure how it can be done

I do have the gift card already. I just don't have the TIW card. I know that they accept the TIW card and since you have to show the card and ID, and the person paying the bill has to match the name on the card, I would assume that they would have to verify that somehow, right? I would be OK with having the full amount charged to the gift card and then get the 20% refunded when I show the TIW card, if that's how they have to do it.

Surely someone here on the DIS has used the TIW card to book HDDR....how does it work?? I'd call Disney Dining, but in all honesty, our trip isn't until October so it is a LONG ways off. I don't want to tie up a phone line when I can't even make the reservation yet anyways. I just like to plan ahead so I can manage my finances appropriately. I have a "cash" budget and a "gift card" budget. Right now, all of my dining will be coming out of the "gift card" budget. If we decide that we really want to do HDDR, I will need to make sure that I keep $200 off of the gift card. It's fairly simple to move cash to gift card, but it's impossible to move it from gift card back to cash.

HDDR is a fully prepaid dinner show so you will be charged at the time you make the reservation. I do not know if you can use a gift card to pay, but if you can, most likely you will have to call to make the reservation. Be sure to keep the gift card because the TiW refund will have to go back on it. You are correct that the castmember needs to see the TiW card and the cardholder's ID so the TiW discount will be given when you pick up the HDDR tickets.

You can call to pay with a gift card. You’ll be charged full price. You can get the TiW discount refunded at the window when you pick up your tickets. My guess is that it will go back on the gift card, so make sure you keep it and leave enough room for the credit.

I believe you can only use TIW for the late (8:30) show. If I am wrong, someone please let me know as I paid for 8 people a few months ago and 20% would be a significant refund.

This is the information I was looking for! Thanks! I was planning on the 8:30 show anyways so that works on our favor and as far as hold on to the gift card goes, I will be sure to use one of the ones I have stored in my Disney Gift Card account. That way, I could always transfer the refund to the card I have with me if I end up bringing a different one.
