Booking FP+ at the park in the afternoon

Has anyone had experience booking FP+ in the afternoon at the parks? We are getting in on the CM main gate so we can't make the reservations in advance (crossing my fingers this changes before May). Our plan is to do the rope drops in the morning to get the rides we really want to do (we'll be there for 6 days) and then hop in the afternoon to book our FP+ reservations. Now, are there usually any FP+ reservations left in the afternoon? I know I heard the TSM is always out, but what about the other rides at Epcot and MK?

I would think that all the headliners would be gone by the afternoon but I'm not sure anyone really knows for sure. I think our family would only do this is getting FP+s for lesser rides would be okay.

I think earlier in the week (obviously before alot of the star wars crowd shows up) will be your best chance at doing this.

What I would do is plan a morning in each park, with the sole intention that the first two hours of those mornings will be dedicated to "must-do's". The, as you hop back to a park in the afternoon, it won't "kill" you if no FP+ is available.

You really have two strategies. One is to hit the most recommended park during the morning allowing you to get more done in the morning, but run a higher rick that the FP+ will be gone once you hop to a busier park.

The other would be to start your day at the busiest park of the day and maybe willing to hop a little later, BUT the park you hop to will have FP+ remaining later in the day then it would on a busier day.

Remember (take 5/13 for example), WDW as a whole may be a 5 out of 10 on the crowd scale, BUT Magic Kingdom could really be a 3/10 and Epcot could really be a 7 out of 10. So you might want to consider hitting Epcot at 9 am staying until around 11 am, then heading over the Magic Kingdom where a lighter crowd awaits you and so will the opportunity to book more FP+.

Just checked my MDE App. At this moment, the only attractions showing stand-by only are Soarin' at Epcot, Wishes and MSEP at MK, and the Meet Disney Pals thing at AK. TSM at DHS was showing FP+ availability, although I would guess that may not last long.

That helps a lot, thank you! I was thinking we'd probably hop to another park around 2 or 3pm, depending on when we get done with the morning park.

I suppose an alternative to my plan would be to do a rope drop and set up FP+ times in the morning for that park, and stay into the afternoon, then in the evening hop to another park, especially if there's evening EMH.
