My family does not fly very often, but we are flying from South Carolina to California this summer and I was wondering what the best site is to book our flights. Do we need to go directly through the airline or through a 3rd party? Thanks

I usually book direct or through my credit card travel site

I usually search flights using kayak dot Com and then book through the airline website. Southwest does not come up in the search though so I have to check their prices via their site.

I usually use Expedia just to price compare, then book directly through the airline. We have been flying Southwest mostly which isn't one of the airlines on Expedia.

I also downloaded the Hopper app. A lot of the cheer moms I know use this app to track the best time to book flights.

I also use google flights and also go directly the booking sites of the 2 airlines I fly most. Matrix-ITA software is another site I use, to me it seems similar to google flights probably cause it is run by google. From what I read, Kayak is powered by ita software. I like those 2 sites because there isn't all the pop ups and advertising that comes with some of the other flight search sites. With both, they are useful to compare prices, not to book. I am a Den member (Frontier) and those prices don't show up in 3rd party sites so that is one airline I go to directly.
