Booking flight legs separately

There is supposedly an extra charge but it doesn't amount to much, the quotes I've had seem about the same as returning to mco.

So you hire a car in MCO and hand it back in West Palm Beach ...is there

an extra charge for returning car at a different departure airport. ?

There are no fees for one way rentals within the state of Florida, if you return it to a location out of Florida then you are charged a fee. Last year I looked at doing a road trip from Florida right up to New Hampshire, cost was the normal rental charges plus $500 one way fee.

This is the info from Alamo but they are all the same as far as I know:

Key Information

One Way Rentals

Alamo Rent A Car offer free one way rentals in many locations. One way hires are free of charge between the following locations.

Florida - Free one way rentals within the state of Florida

California - Free one way rentals within the state of California (Excluding Convertibles commencing 01 July 2012 - 31 August. from all San Francisco locations to all destinations will incur a charge of $350 USD plus tax)

California to Nevada and vice versa - Free of charge (excludes convertibles for above dates*)

California to Arizona and vice versa - Free of charge

Arizona to Nevada and vice versa - Free of charge

USrentacar quote:

Cheers Wayne, quick car question too if that's OK?

We have always had some sort of SUV when renting but found the intermediate quite small in April, however full size are really pricey at the moment. I missed a great deal on hertz a month ago because I didn't know my dates!

How do people find the full size four door cars? Most sites say 4 cases, we have three large cases, a couple of trunkis etc. No pushchairs any more luckily. It seems a shame to pay loads for something massive just for the three trips we'll take with full luggage.

what Wayne said - Alamo does not charge one way fees in Florida.
Last August, i rented in Orlando and dropped off in Fort Lauderdale (heading for our cruise)
Then rented in Fort Lauderdale and dropped off at MCO.

There was no one way fee either way.

Intermediate SUV or Full size cars should both take 2 large cases + 2 smaller ones but all depends on the model of car.
Last August in Boston airport the Alamo rep was adamant(usual upgrade tact) we would not get 3 cases in an inter SUV (Ford Escape). We fit 3 easy with room for a 4th.
Other times we have had full size car, I remember once getting a Dodge charger and struggling with 3 cases.

So we are in the same boat as you every trip, which to go for, prefer larger SUV but this time too much money.

it's so alamo to do that..
each time i was there on my own or with DD, they've tried to pressure me out of the small car, saying nothing would fit..
i stood my ground and the cars held everything i needed them to hold..

as for when we're a group, i most prefer the minivan (the town & country i think)....it has zillions of bells and whistles and drives like a dream!!

When we flew to Sanford in April, the Alamo intermediate SUV was one of two models of Jeep (patriot and compass I think) and they were three suitcases and nothing else or 2 plus other luggage.

It's possible we can get by but I wondered about cars, is there a category that covers estates as you do see some around.

We once got an estate(I hate estate cars but it was OK) booked full size but they told us it was an upgrade so it must be Premium or Luxury but unless you go with a company that lets you pick a specific car you can't know what you will get. If you pick a specific car it will cost a lot more.

I wouldn't be too happy if the only choice was 2 Jeeps, I don't like Jeep at all, I would be asking for something else to be brought out.

Don't get me wrong, we didn't pay a lot and it did the job, a little basic inside but air-con and just big enough to get luggage in. In reality we barely used it but wouldn't dream of not having a car even in a Disney hotel.

I just need a 20% holiday autos offer, hopefully one is around the corner.
