Good morning! I understand your AP has to be activated Does that mean you cannot book Fastpasses even if you have a booked stay? I still have leftover entries from a previous NE ticket but my husband needs a ticket. We’re contemplating whether we should get one AP for him or get regular tickets that we can attach to MDE.
Thanks.

If you’ve booked a stay, you need to link that reservation. An activated AP can do Fastpass without

I was under the impression that you could only activate an AP in person since you have to show your DVC card for the discount. Was I misinformed?

When you purchase AP in advance, the AP itself will not be activated for actual use for the parks until you arrive and activate it at a ticket booth or Guests Relations (and show required IDs and DVC Member card). But when you purchase an AP in advance, you can put the confirmation number for the AP in your MDE account and use it to make FP+ at 60 days out if you have an on-site DVC or hotel reservation, or 30 days out if no on-site reservation.

Thanks for the clarification. We have a 7 day stay in 88 days so it’s getting close to the 60-day mark. I plan on booking FP for every day of the week including our arrival day. In reality, we may not actually enter the parks till day 2 or 3. We’re staying at BLT for my husband’s 50th birthday. Is it safe to assume that the activation day would be the first day we go to the parks or DS in person? We’re thinking of coming back for a week on Thanksgiving and another week during spring break next year so the actual activation date would make a difference.

The activation of the AP begins immediately upon, but not before, your doing an activation at a ticket booth or Guest Relations at WDW, and that activation occurs even if you then do not actually enter a park for that day. The AP once activated is then valid for one year and a day, e.g., activate an AP at a WDW ticket booth or Guest Relations on March 1, 2020, and it will be valid through March 1, 2021 (a total of 366 days).

Actually, in the last year or so Disney changed this policy, per the Ticket sticky on the Theme Parks board. You still have to visit a ticket booth or GR to activate the AP, but the year doesn't begin until you use that AP to enter a park. Great for those of us who activate our APs at the Ticket Center in DS the day (or two) before we start going to the parks!
