Booking DVC without points

Hi everyone,

I apologize if this has been discussed elsewhere, I was unable to find any answers.


My wife and I have a pending deal for BWV going through ROFR right now. This would be our first DVC contract.

We typically plan to always go around the end of September each year. My question is, can I make a reservation for the following year without points in my account?

We will have points coming 9/1/23, but if we close soon, we will not have them prior to our 11 month window. Is it still possible to book with the idea that the points will be available prior to us arriving?

You will have to have the points in your account for the use year that you want to book. So until that contract closes and the points show up in your account and are available to use, you won't be able to book anything (as far as I know). So if you are asking if you can make a reservation in anticipation of the points coming available from a new purchase, I do not believe you can. Someone will correct me if there is a way around it.

So in short, as soon as your contract closes and the points appear in your account as being available, then you can book.

The seller is paying the 2022 annual dues because of this. With that said, we have a 2023 trip planned, I was assuming we would be able to use the incoming points to book a trip for next September with those points, since we will not be arriving prior to the renewal at the beginning of that month. I assumed at the very least, it would be like borrowing those points.

Use year resets. So if the full points allotment for next year are still in the contract you are purchasing (i.e. they didn't borrow against them), then yes, those points can be used to book a trip in the next use year. From what you have explained, the points will reset as of September 1, 2023 -- so you can book against those for any trip occurring on or after September 1, 2023).

Your exciting purchase adventure has begun! There are four checkpoints along the way. First is the ROFR wait. Second is the Closing with deed filing and ownership transfer to DVC. Third is the contact from DVC informing you of being a member and how to access and setup your account. Fourth is the wait for the contract to go into the membership with the points. You won’t be able to make a reservation until then.
Look at your contract as the points are already there in each UY. You have a reservation booking window when you can use the points. If not planning any reservations in the 2022 UY you can bank 2022 points into 2023. When you book the 2023 reservation, the banked points will be used first.

It is based on the time of travel and not when you book it. So, if you want to take a trip in September 2023, then you can call to book that trip in October 2022. Since this trip is in your 2023 UY, you will be able to use banked 2022 points, 2023 points, and borrow 2024 points to complete the reservation.

You get all of your points from the start, but the UY just determines which type of points can be used for which trips. So, once you get the contract in your account, and the points are loaded into the account, you will be able to book your trip!
