Booking dining reservations w/o booking trip?

So I'm about 75% sure I'm going back to Disney over Spring Break. I told my cousin she has until Christmas to get me the money so I can book the trip. The thing is, I'm leaning towards the dining plan (quick service and table service). But I don't want to wait until December or January to try and book the dining reservations I really want at the times I want.
Getting to the point now.
Can I book dining reservations before I have booked my actual Disney vacation? Anyone know? Thanks in advance for any help

Yes, yes you can.

They just have to be LESS THAN 180 days away from the date you call (or log in online) to book.

For example, today (9/12/12) you can book ADR's for 3/11/13 and any time BEFORE that date.

Yes, it's what I've just done. I only haven't booked the castle yet, because I am waiting for my DxDDP points (I sure don't want to prepay for it, it will be a fortune)
